I've been to Detroit a few times during my life. Last time was a couple of decades ago. We drove through the worst of the ghettos to visit family in Grosse Pointe. I told my wife to roll up the window...like that would help . It was very scary. Maybe Detroit has improved since my last visit, but at that time Portland was a slice of heaven by comparison.

I agree with you. I've watched some home remodeling shows about the reconstruction going on there. Still, all those vacant lots where the homes were demolished is pretty sad. Even the opportunity to get in on the ground floor price wise isn't enough to lure people into moving there.

Some of my family has lived in Albion, MI for several generations. It is a small town about 100 miles west of Detroit. Even there, home prices have been very depressed for years.

I've been retired for 10 years. It has no impact on my benefits whatsoever. But hey, shopping at Goodwill is fine with me. Maybe I can buy back some of the shit I donated to them over the years. Guess my ass is safe for now.

What will happen is that as benefits are reduced to the point that no one wants a job in public employment, suckers like you will be waiting indefinitely for you welfare benefits because of the lack of personnel to send you your check or your SNAP benefits.
