Are they worth taking? What's the consensus here on Getbig regarding multivitamins and vitamins supplements in general?

Why would they not work, your body needs a huge variety of vitamins and minerals for healing

Imagine if you thought like me. Take  100 random people and make a 2 inch long cut with a razor knife. Give half megadoses of nutritional yeast. Guess wich group heals faster

Depends on your age. The older you are the more you'll benefit from them.

Sure, why not take a multivitamin.  They're cheap.

And they make your urine a pretty yellow.

I know Palumbo swears by them, but he laughs at brands like Centrum saying you can't fit all those ingredients in one pill and the vitamins they use aren't really absorbed because they're not chelated? So..not sure what's what really.

Yes for sure. Vitamins are even prescribed by doctors so you know you need them. Both Vit C and vit D boosts immune system which is extra needed with the Covid thing. I've not gotten sick at all last year even through the covid and I've been on high dose vitamins. For sure has benefited me.

Funny story... Somalians in Sweden are prescribed vitamin D for free by goverment because they don't get enough sun here and they wear full cover clothes all the time.for their black skin.

That's minerals not much of an issue with vitamins.

Centrum isn't great, but it's not completely useless.

The whole vitamin, minerals and b complexes stuff is a bit of a pain. Some are absorbed better with food some without. The easiest thing to do is buy a really good quality multi and have half a pill in the morning with breakfast and half later in the day on an empty stomach.

Most of the stuff isn't needed if your diet is good... But many have shit diets so...

Must have supplements Imo are

vitamin d3, 30-40000 iu once a week
Zinc 15-30 mgs day
Magnesium 300-500 mgs day (diahorrea indicates you can lower the dose)

Maybe a B complex

Most of everything else you should be able to get from your diet.

Who the hell knows. They are controversial among the experts who study these things. Sometimes they can be
outright harmful. For example, B vitamins seem to increase cancer rates in smokers. Some studies show increased mortality among those who take vitamins/antioxidants. Correlation or causation? Who knows. Some experts say iron should never be taken by men and copper should not be taken by anyone, unless adviced by a doctor looking at your blood work. This is why some offer multivitamins either with or without these ingredients. It's complicated.

I'm due for a iron drip next week. :D

What causes low iron? My girl has to get infusions every so often. It's not like we don't chow down on plenty of red meat and broccoli and supplement c.

Any advice you can give is much appreciated, VB.

PS - Why are you taking it when some guys say not to?

A woman's monthly period causes low iron in some women.

Men should never take iron supplements.

He seems like a well informed guy generally, and it's likely he'll have a lot of information about iron since he takes it.

Did you have anything to offer the discussion about iron or multivitamins?

It's the fat soluble vitamins/antioxidants that you need to be careful with. A, D, E and K

Men should never take iron supplements.

They are characterized as "heavy." I have no firsthand knowledge. She won't let me near it. Apparently it's like a Tarantino scene.

I should add that she goes through phases where she complains of feeling bloated after eating. When it's real bad, even just a half cup of coffee. Yes, I'm asking getbig for health advice because doctors here were fucking useless on the gut thing.

Iron assays indicate that she doesn't recover after a period. She eats iron. Doesn't have iron. I conclude she's not absorbing iron. Would love to get to the bottom of it.

Googing iodine & selenium as related to iron now. Gracias, Campeon.

B12 deficiency can cause low iron levels (pernicious anaemia)

Don't use the microwave to nuke veg as it kills b12.

Take a methyl b12 supplement, if that doesn't help try a spray or patch. If it's still not helping then regular b12 injections.

Also get extra folic acid, magnesium and potassium into the diet or supplement them.
