I believe it has all the same functions as WhatsApp, I have never used Signal.

It has a very easy interface, I prefer it.

LINE is based in South Korea and is the most popular messaging app in Japan, Taiwan and Thailand.

My own opinion (as a liberal): eventually they need to bring these back, maybe not quite yet. There are freedom of speech issues even though these are private companies. I think after what happened last week, which was beyond scary and has never happened before except by a foreign power during war, there truly has been a safety issue. Maybe right after inauguration is the best timing, but not a good idea to shut off free exchange of ideas long term.

If they had weapons and were trying to take over the building, then it would be 'scary', however they were just a mob who entered with no plans to take over the building.

Quick question for those that are tech savvy. I've recently made some changes at home with regards to what apps/programs I use both on my home PC and phone. I'd like your input/suggestions, as I know some of you are very skilled in these areas (programming, IT etc).

I've removed all Facebook products (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp) I once had due to my concerns with privacy. I've now downloaded Signal as my designated chat app.

Is this a safe alternative? Would you recommend something better? Is it the best option to replace something like WhatApp or Facebook Messenger?

I've also stopped using Google Chrome and instead now use Duck Duck Go as my web browser.

An hour later, got a mushroom ad on facebook.

So, yeah.


Signal, proton mail, DDG seem to be the way to go, until Goodrum gets finished on app dev for the ones we really need.

I will download LINE and try it for a week with a few friends. I am doing the same with Signal. I want to give a few of these chat apps a fair try and see whether they're just as easy to use as WhatsApp and whether they might have similar or better features.

I am by no means an expert, but following someones advice I switched to a browser called Brave that I've been pretty happy with.  It blocks load of trackers and stuff like that automatically (no extensions required)

It uses DuckDuckGo as the default search engine, and you can open a TOR window from it without actually firing up TOR.  It's also got crypto functionality for those that dabble.  Nice and fast too

Never heard of this web browser, but do appreciate the ability to have a TOR window open. Will definitely download this and have it as an alternative to Duck Duck Go.

It is shocking that a black person in America would be in favor of banning and criminalizing dissent. Is it an IQ thing? You honestly can't see where this will lead? I think the fact that Amazon Cloud dropped Parler just like that, along with Apple and Android Play controlling things is just the beginning of big media controlling what you see and hear.  Dont like something. Bye bye. Forget about the basic free speech right.   If they don't like it, just block it.  A few years ago, this would never have happened, but now, censorship, bullying and whatever is the norm, whether on the internet, at colleges, etc.    You can't even debate anymore without someone calling you names, or worse.
