Agreed. It's annoying that the people who throw that expression around somehow think they are smarter or wiser than people who are 50-60 years old. The implication is that the old generation is bigoted because they don't believe in 72 genders, or that endless mass immigration and universal basic income and other millennial trends are good.
I'm not of the mind that older people are out of touch, simply due to aging. IMO, life experience tends to make people wise. That said, there are probably appropriate times to use that expression. Generally, I just find it derogatory and annoying though.
