Just had to call an ambulance for my mother a little over an hour ago. She was breathing, but not responsive.
It all started when she fell and dislocated her hip, and broke her leg, in August of 2019. It was a slow recovery, and she had/has had to use a walker ever since. Her lack of mobility caused her leg muscles to weaken, which basically caused a domino effect.
She started having less energy and eating less.
Fast forward to the last few days. Didn't eat shit, and she complained of not sleeping barely at all.
I was keeping a sharp eye on her, because I saw even a sharper decline the past few days. She was in bed way too long to not notice something was wrong. I checked on her the first time, and I saw that she was breathing (and actually snoring) so I said to myself, she might actually be getting some deep sleep for once.
The second time I had to try to wake her just to get something to eat. While she was clearly breathing, she was unresponsive to light shaking/slapping of her cheeks, or verbal commands.
Hopefully, all she needs is a few IVs and maybe a feeding tube for awhile. I think she just became too weak to function.
She is only 61.
