The E bike craze hasn't hit NJ yet. I assume it's big in California and the other west coast states. If I wanted to scoot around and not peddle for local rides I would rather have a small street legal on/off road dirt motorcycle. Honda makes a 125 that goes for about $3700.  It will go 65 so it's good for non highway driving.

yes but its a 100kg plus motorbike. an ebike weighs 20kgs. its a completely different thing.

Simon Cowell that judge from American Idol broke his back in several places and needed a six hour operation with metal rods after he crashed his E bike.  30 miles an hour is sick fast on a bike that can't stop that great because of the weight and crappy brakes.

I don't understand why guys don't want to pedal bikes anymore.

So what  ::), NO CRAPPY brakes on good models !.

I don't get it either. Get a real motorbike if you don't feel like pedaling.

I think this is just another way to get unfit people on a bike they call "excercise".

Marketing gimmick IMO

BS, it's fit guys bike & you need to pedal !. Fatsos don't ride those bikes !.

Some models can go over 60km/h  & battery lasts to 100km !.

California restricted riding speed, 4 E-bike categories !.

Inform yourself !.

I agree with this. Get a real motorbike if you're too fat and lazy to pedal a bike.

I'm not sure where you live, ir if you ever do anything active, but I rarely see anyone riding these that's capable of riding a regular bike. I'm sure there are a few out there, but this is merely a marketing gimmick to get fatsos on a bike.

thats only a 250 watt motor. nice bike though but basically a downhill no power and uphill pedal assist set up.
Your POS bike would fall apart on one trail. You want an electric motorcycle, buy one. ::)

this is a $10k bike.
Sam Pilgrim is great to watch. Better riders but he's got himself a good niche in retirement.

I have a couple of emtbs, Both top spec models. Just took delivery of a new Commencal which has the ep8 motor and 630wh battery and it gets about 40% more than my other bike which had the e8000 and 500wh setup.

The tech has improved a lot!

But I ride trails, not surburban stuff. You see the odd fatty on trails but generally on a pedal bike because they aren’t serious riders and not about to drop 10k+ on a bike that they don’t have the skills to really benefit from a bike like that.

If the cities ever provide secure bike lockup at shopping centres I think ebikes can be a disrupter to the electric car industry. Way cheaper to buy. Way cheaper to run. I would ride mine most places if there was somewhere safe to put it.

E-bikes require no licensing and insurance as long as they only can go so fast.

They do in Cali, some home build 'E' can go over 100km p/h, double battery system  ;)

Yup, i see more and more of them here. Mostly younger people just cruising around.

The problem i have with them is that they never follow the traffic laws, which they are bound to as well. They just drive wherever they want at any time.

Almost ran one over a few weeks ago as he just shot across the street when i had a green light.

I would not have felt bad if i would have ran him over. ;D

Don't know about Cali but usually no licensing if they can't exceed 20mph.
