Trying to avoid brick paving and bitumen will probably stink in Aus summer heat.

Would flagstone cost millions? The house is fieldstone so it would match in nicely. Can you get away with flags over clay if water is managed well and you got enough concrete under for vehicle weight?

The flagstones can be used on a driveway mate but since they generally aren’t designed for vehicles the strength needs to be in sun base to stop them cracking under the weight can be done two ways first is pretty impractical by bedding them in 4 inches of concrete but means labourer needs to mix up about a cubic metre every 10 square metres or getting a batch dropped off and working fast to get the flags down before it becomes unworkable, much preferred method is laying 4 inches of concrete across the whole drive to a height of the thickness of the flag plus about an inch and a half below the finished height then lay the flags on a full bed of inch and a half wet cement and sharp sand mix (bit plasticiser in the mix makes it bit easier to work with) pasting the back of the flagstones with cement slurry immediately prior to laying this is much prefers to the first method and should be more than adequate, both methods I would put a few inches of compacted hardcore down first sounds like a good project mate would like to see it when done as think it will look great with the flagstones the laying method is slightly tedious but worth the effort we done a drive for a paki early last year and he bought these shitty thin 4” by 4” tiles that were barely a half inch thick so all had to be laid in the above method there was 20,000 + of the fuckers was sick of my life by end haha
