Well, some Oregonians like to play it safe....and....our Governor shut them down. The good news is, compared to our neighboring states, the COVID numbers here are much better, as in fewer cases and fewer deaths.
If I lived alone, I probably would not have been as cautious about exposure to COVID as I have been...not sure. I'm a fatalist and if it's my time. then it is my time. But I have some obligation to stay COVID free to protect the rest of my family who I am in close contact with on a daily basis.
It's not just gyms, but all businesses that are surprisingly hanging in there and likely scraping by with help from the federal government. Honestly, I don't know how more restaurants aren't going bankrupt. A place where I like to go to breakfast was always packed before COVID now with the rules about safe distancing and capacity limits the are probably making around 25% of the income they were before.
Floridians do, too. But, there comes a point where the "cure" is worse than the disease. Besides, we can proverbially walk and chew gum at the same time. Our governor issued guidelines but he let the mayors do their things for their cities/counties, provided they didn't turn into DeBlasios or Lightfoots.
To my pleasant SURPRISE, the mayor of Orange County (a liberal, whose wife is a former sheriff and one of the most left-winged congresswomen walking this planet) actually took a balanced and sensible approach to this matter.....for the most part.
The restaurants here are allowed to be opened at at least 50% capacity, unless you have a sob story as to why it should be less.
As I said earlier, our gyms were only closed for three months. Upon reopening, we had to use the 24-Hour Fitness app to make a one-hour reservation and check into the club without the fingerprint thing. The 30-minute close time for cleaning really only lasted 5-15 minutes and (at least where I train) they let you back inside to keep training until the next group arrives.
That all ended in September. I'd say it's about 80%-85% back to normal. The kids' club is still closed and the mask police don't bother you anymore once you checked into the gym and (in my case) go upstairs where the weights are.
