We’re at the point where the Mob takes over the restaurant and runs up the credit knowing they’ll never pay. The next “crisis” will be the bust out.

“And when you can't borrow another buck from the bank or buy another case of booze, you bust the joint out” lol.

What happens next, has anything or any country in the history of civilization ever done this before?

Do you know how many places can’t find employees because it’s not worth it to work for so many people....

When I was in Vegas the weekend before last, I went to breakfast to a place I go regularly when I’m out there...”Tom’s Urban” I ordered what I always order (fried chicken on a cornbread pancake). Server was awesome and apologetic. My breakfast took more than 45 min. She kept apologizing for the wait.

Long story short, she was telling me that the cooks and her were working 12 hour shifts because they were short staffed. I said because it was probably they were getting more to stay home and do nothing than to work.

She told me they had 240 job applications and they call them in for an interview, they don’t show. She brought up a great point by saying “they just put in job applications to show they’ve been looking for a job”

Pay people enough to make it worth their while or if the argument is that it kills businesses and employers then subsidize those that go back to work with enough extra $ to actually live.  Anyone that is willing to work 40 or more hours a week should not be hurting financially.  Nobody should have to choose between food or medicine or between heat and electricity.  Today's middle class would have been considered working poor 40 years ago.

The small minority of people who actually voted democrat do not think in terms of numbers and don't understand what any of this means. They only understand more money for social justice and that makes them happy.

The world in 2008 Which was the GFC.

If you recall, it got that bad banks stopped evicting people from their homes and stopped foreclosure sales. Instead the owners/renters were squatting for years for free and the bank sold the property to the Fed for book value.

The question is what comes after this part? The answer is product and food shortages which result in mass civil unrest.

People love not having a job and getting free money to not work. Remove their food and watch them
Go apeshit……

"not worth it" ... you mean "being paid not to"

I have had an employee use the exact words "it is not worth it to come back to work".

I'm all for people making more money however they can but is it in our nations best interests to pay people to stay home? Why not give money to everyone?

We will continue to have an issue with supply and demand. More can purchase goods but due to a lack of a workforce there aren't as many products available for purchase. The goods that are available have gone up in price substantially.

Look no further than building materials. Plywood prices have skyrocketed. Home remodel products like appliances, cabinetry, countertops installations have multiple month lead times

It has been renewed, I dont know for how long.

Also I should clarify it wasnt my employee who made this statement, it was an employee of a partner company that I am friendly with. His point was he wasnt going back to work if he can make comparable money doing nothing.  Rereading what I wrote made it sound as if I contacted him to come back to work because it was my employee.

The restaurant business, any restaurant business works on extremely thin profit margins. Who do you suggest should subsidize them?

All those metrics have already come off the boil. Lumber peaked at 1,617 and is down at 800 now.

Property has been going nuts for a year but sentiment started turning about a month ago.

You are spot on regarding supply of housing materials as there are still delays and a large waiting list yet to be fulfilled. However we can’t ignore that we essentially saw a run on materials months after we shut down the entire globe.

Fast forward 3 months from today and you will see a chunk of that order book cancelled. People love to buy at peak happiness but once that feeling goes they like to cancel if it doesn’t turn up.

Obviously, anyone with a brain is not going to go to work when they can make the same thing by staying home but most of the people that left the workforce are women and in my estimation that’s a good thing. With a declining birth rate the country is better off with more women at home making babies as opposed to being pain in the asses in the workplace and continually accusing men of sexual-harassment.

As I said, the unemployment checks are a non issue. It ends in August anyway and the economy is really going to return to normal at the end of the summer.

Good call.

https://spectrumnews1.com/ca/la-west/politics/2021/06/24/senators-to-pitch-latest-infrastructure-plan-to-president-joe-biden

The president said the group made "serious compromises on both ends."

In a subsequent statement released after the meeting, the White House laid out the specifics of the proposal: $1.2 trillion over 8 years, and $973 billion over 5 years, which includes $579 billion in new spending over the baseline.

"The $1.2 trillion Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework is a critical step in implementing President Biden’s Build Back Better vision," the statement reads. "The Plan makes transformational and historic investments in clean transportation infrastructure, clean water infrastructure, universal broadband infrastructure, clean power infrastructure, remediation of legacy pollution, and resilience to the changing climate. Cumulatively across these areas, the Framework invests two-thirds of the resources that the President proposed in his American Jobs Plan."

Bait and switch:

https://www.wsj.com/articles/instant-bipartisan-double-cross-11624574163?mod=opinion_lead_pos2

Instant Bipartisan Double Cross
Biden and Pelosi hold a Senate deal hostage to the rest of their agenda.

Politicians in Washington renege on their bipartisan promises all the time, but what are we to make of a deal in which one side admits it is pulling a bait and switch from the start? That was the astonishing news Thursday as President Biden and Speaker Nancy Pelosi endorsed a bipartisan Senate infrastructure deal even as they said the price of their support is getting the rest of their agenda too.

Mr. Biden stood with five Democratic and five Republican Senators at the White House and endorsed their trillion-dollar infrastructure outline. Back-slapping and self-plaudits all around. But two hours later the President said he won’t sign the infrastructure bill unless the Senate also passes the other $3 trillion or more he has proposed in tax increases and multiple new entitlement programs.

“What we agreed on today is what we could agree on. The physical infrastructure. There’s no agreement on the rest,” Mr. Biden said. “If this is the only thing that comes to me, I’m not signing it.” Mrs. Pelosi issued the same ultimatum: “We will not take up a bill in the House until the Senate passes the bipartisan bill and a reconciliation bill” (that could pass without GOP support).

Most politicians at least wait a decent interval to pull a double cross. But Mrs. Pelosi and Mr. Biden are trying to prevent a revolt on the left. So they are now holding a bipartisan deal hostage to the left’s demands. This is political blackmail aimed at Democrats like Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema who are part of the bipartisan Senate Gang of 10: Unless they sign on to all of the progressive tax-and-spend agenda, they won’t get their bipartisan deal. And Mr. Biden and progressives will blame them for the failure.

This is remarkable bad faith even for Washington. We’ll have more to say about the details of the bipartisan deal as they emerge. But Thursday’s comments make clear this exercise isn’t bipartisan at all. The Pelosi-Biden political goal is to use this Senate deal as leverage to jam through the rest of their progressive wish list.

The question is why Senate Republicans would sign on to this deal when they are being told to their faces they’ll be double-crossed. Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell expressed appropriate doubt due to the bait and switch late Thursday. Some Republicans hope the bipartisan deal will make it harder to pass a reconciliation bill by taking away the popular infrastructure bits. But unless Republicans know that Mr. Manchin or other Democrats won’t support a Pelosi reconciliation bill, that hope appears to have died on Thursday.

I don’t believe every employee needs to be paid a “decent” salary. There are certain entry level jobs that are exactly that, entry level for learning. Most of the time these are for younger people, but I do understand there are instances where an older person may need to start at the bottom. I don’t think someone who greets people at a Walmart should be making a “living” from that task.

You know we (tax payers) subsidize most of Walmarts employees right?  Their average employee is paid so little that they qualify for food assistance and ACA subsidies.  Kind of fucked up being that the family/conglomerate that owns Walmart is among the richest in the country and perhaps the world.
