He moved from NY to Jacksonville.  Then moved to S Florida (Lantana/WPB) when he was part owner in those two peptide companies down here.  I used to catch workouts with him every couple of months since he was only 25 minutes away.  He started having health issues and met a girl who took care of him.  They got moved to Tampa and then to Atlanta where he and his wife Pam went through a divorce but remained best friends.  He got engaged to his girlfriend and that was the last I saw him (in person).   Then he moved from Atlanta, back to Jacksonville briefly to wrap up some things and sell his condo.  He worked out until he fucked up both quads and then started training with his bousi (sp?) ball.  He had a ton of knowledge and some great gym stories.
That must have been awesome to train with him !!

He was extremely down to earth.  The LA Fitness in Boyton Beach was directly next to a Pollo Tropical.  We would train and then walk next door and order a Large Pollo Tropichop - chicken and brown rice, plop of bbq sauce, stir it all around and have a coke zero with it.   Up until then, I was always having white rice with chicken post work out.  He got me to stick with white rice before the workout, brown rice afterwards.   He said "it just works better".  Nothing else, no long scientific detailed explanation.  Just that.  And it did.

He got screwed over big time by his peptide partner.  Which lead to both peptide companies going under (partner had to hide).

Cool !!

When I lived in Port St. Lucie back in the early to mid 90`s I trained with IFBB pro Dave Marinelli a few times and had the distinct pleasure of doing 5-6 sets of pulldowns with Jeff King once.................... .also a great guy who made time for anyone.

Thanks bro.

I train with Paul Baker a lot here.  He's just a comedy show the entire time.  Great dude, but Phil was an encyclopedia of knowledge.  Stayed in shape all the time too.  Even with the bousi ball training.

He didn't stick to the fruit stuff?

Honestly it was pretty impressive how long he was in shape for. You reckon Phil was lying about being on trt? If not, those are some freaky genetics.

10-12 years ago,, i saw a sample of the diet he gave one of his online clients.... pretty sure it was ALL fruit for carbs... ive never tried it though.... i also believe he was a big fan of negatives when training.... im talking sets of negative movements.

No he wasn’t lying about his TRT dose.   He used a lot peps as well mainly just to try them out.

I didn’t eat every meal with him but post training when we went there that is what he had.  He ate clean year around.  And stayed in shape.  Even when he dropped weight training for bands and then dropped that for body weight bouis ball training or whatever that blue thing is called he stayed in great shape.

workout of peace:

1. Chest, Back,  Standing calvs-Day 1
2. Quads, hamstrings, abs- Day 2
3. Shoulders, Biceps, Triceps, Seated calvs- Day 3
4. Off
3 Sets ONLY per body part. After warm up, do heaviest set first,  maybe in the range of 5-9 reps to failure, then drop 10% for another set, then another 10% drop for last set. Rest between sets until breathing returns to normal. Use compound movements only. No cables.

Choose between declines and dips only for chest .

Side laterals only for shoulders, no pressing movements.
Squats for quads only.
Choose stiff legged dead lifts, abductors and leg curls for hamstrings, and you can rotate these exercises or do 1 set of each as per how you feel. Rotate standing and seated calvs when it is their turn to train them.
Pull ups and rows for your back because it is so big, 3 sets each.
DBs for bicep curls, dips or close grip bench for triceps.
Do not go all the way up or all the way down on any exercise, stay in the 80% zone.
Keep a fast smooth pace, no kinks or stopping to catch breath.
Take each set to failure, do not count reps after the first set. Do 7-10 minutes of hard cardio every day except for leg day, after weight training.

That is the workout that he advocated for many years.  I remember someone paying him for it long ago on Outlaw and posting the email from him.  That is word for word what he sent the guy.

He used a clinic down here, which follows the standard format of 200mg a week as all the other ones.  Due to the dubious side of the peptide industry he said he didn't want to obtain them from anywhere else in case LE came investigating.  At least he had a legit script here for it.

From what I read he made a lot of enemies selling fake peptides, I think one product was some myostatin peptide. I think they had it analyzed and it was bunk. I'm not in the US so never tried any of those.

Most of his stuff was bunk from what i remember.

A lot of people tried to speak out against it, but he was protected by the forums because he was a sponsor.

IIRC our very own ESF posted some very unflattering comments about these scenarios a couple years back...

When he owned Ergo he bought crap Follistatin which the guy sent him something to try that was not follistatin and he said it showed results.  What he sold others under the Follistatin name was crap the guy passed off on him.   He did not knowingly sell fake stuff.  Anyone complaining was banned because the supplier was “golden” over on PM and the mods didn’t want backlash.

Phil later merged Ergo into Purchase Peptides and turned over all his connections to the scumbag that ripped him off later on.  He gave Phil shares in a non existent company in return.  Later on just decided to stop paying him his checks all together.  Same dude convinced Phil to give him $100,000 as an investment in a detox center that never even opened its doors.   The guy never even finished the remodeling basics.  Instead just walked away leaving it sitting there collecting fines from the city daily.

Phil then went with Grindstone Labs and was doing ok as it was owned by former friends and employees of the previous scumbag.  However shit hit the fan when the previous scumbag caught the eye of the feds and they started freezing his bank accounts and investigating his fake charity.

After Grindstone shut down Phil moved on to a few more industry related things behind the scenes that I won’t mention or get into     He did have a healthy monthly income for his rental properties.

When people talk about his fake peps it is always the Follistatin from the PM supplier. Otherwise he was probably one of the more honest snake oil salesman around.

Is that how you train
Just wondering

These low volume guys always intrigue me (I would put guys like Lacour and Willet in the low volume category although they did a bit more than Hernon seems to have recommended)

Part of the year I do.  I’ve posted my training routine before.   Brief overview :
January to March with Phil training style with minor modifications to it.  Like I don’t do dips but do ten degree inclines,  front squats instead of regular squats, etc.  few deviations but the premise is the same.
April to October
More volume.  10-12 sets, reps in the 10-12 range except quads which are in the 10-15 range. At this point I don’t do any cardio work at all.  I mean I do cardio type activities like biking and swimming but no cardio in the gym. I just ride and swim for fun. I don’t monitor HR or calories burned or anything.
November to December I don’t really train at all. I spend these eight weeks trying different exercise activities.  One of the best I ever did was years ago someone taught a power yoga class and I went there and it was brutal.  Extreme stretches incorporating foam rolling and forced assistance.  It was great.  The teacher has never been back since then but I still do sessions using some of the ones I can do by myself a few times a month.

I believe the eight weeks off really helps more than it hurts overall if you stay active.  Any kind of “exercise” that gets you sweating is good.  Also this is the reason I start back with Phil’s type of training in January as opposed to volume type.  Im rested, any nagging soreness has healed, im stronger on core exercises and looking forward to resuming weight resistance training.

The fact that November and December are the busiest months for my travel photo gigs makes light activity more ideal for when I am traveling and in hotels or on cruises where they don’t have great gyms.

Interesting.  So you have sort of an annualized periodization

I tend to do typically do about 9-12 sets per bp hitting everything 1x per week
I'm thinking about cutting the volume by about 40% and going on an every other day upper/lower split just for something different.

I did chest back and traps today and did  10 sets for chest, 11 sets for back and 6 sets for traps
I do like that amount of volume but I'm curious if lowering the volume might be novel stimulus
Years ago when Dorian was influencing everyone I did lower volume and liked it but I gradually added more volume over time and liked that too.  Sometimes I think I may be doing too much volume just because I like working out.

I paid him for coaching 15+ years ago....

I think it was Leo Costa's Titan Training System from the 90's.  He was featured in the videos.
