As the
Bhank Strict Curl Era draws closer to its inevitable unfullfilled end (qualification effort moved out to July after much 4th March touting, with even Dec thrown in now for additional clausing, by which time it will be at least 1-2 Hanky Cycles removed) a quick look back at how It all began....at a clinic....in a gym....with one other guy and a big chick who was late...and a few words of encouragement from a man named Coop
I just hit a 150lbs strict curl at the strict curl clinic with 14x world champ John Cooper. I need a 170 to qualify for the Arnold at 220lbs. John said I did real good for my first time. It's weird as the bar is different and you hold it different than you would think to get it to flip halfway. Took some practice to prevent it from rolling. Anyway only me and one other guy showed up to the clinic. Then a girl showed up like halfway through and she was a beast said she was 175lsb bulking no fat on her about 25 years old big quads. She hit a 75lb strict curl and at her weight needs a 89lbs curls to qualify for the Arnold. The guy did a 145lb strict was taller than me but supposedly was planning to compete at 198lbs so of course since the girl was there watching I had to do 150lbs. I was happy with that may have had 155/160 in me but I think with some practice I could get to 170lbs. But the tourney is the 10th and I will be on vacation with my son so tonight was my strict curl event. But I don't know I may try and train more with John in the future. I did 3 sets of 10 ez bar curls after the strict basically just started at like 75lbs and kept adding weight doing single reps did 135lbs, 145lbs and 150lbs as my last 3 singles. I have a torn pec and a bad knee so I don't bench and squat heavy by my arms are in pretty decent shape I think I could hit 170lbs with some practice.
