Went through some pretty hard times this past winter. Got through it by getting my ass in the gym every day for the last three plus months. Just buried myself in the gym.

Finally took time off and got away for the last few weeks. Spent some time in the Florida Keys. Just got back. First day back in the gym today after about 3 weeks.

First day I figured I'd do smaller muscle groups.  So arm day it was....
Well at least you were right, you did a "small" muscle.... ;D

Killed it this week but hands are a complete mess.   Too many pull ups.

Look into victory grips.  Fuckers make you stick to the bar.  I did a high volume toes to bar workout one day, and an EMOM with pull ups (100 of them) and no rips.

Having said that, I have noticed a lot of people are in the background of some of my photos, watching me train for some reason.

It's remarkable how often I catch this - especially given that I don't pay attention to others in the gym. I am fully in The Zone when I'm training, and really don't even look at anyone else.

My assumption is that people are impressed with my lifts because they are good lifts for a Manlet.

I'm looking forward to hitting 250x20 bench press this year. I think I can do it. Just not so sure I can do it in the 170's. May need to go up to 190-lb body weight to get that.  :)

Notice in the 1st and 3rd pictures - people are watching me train.

Is it really THAT impressive to lift what I'm lifting there...or is it that it's a lot of weight for a 170-lb'er? Seems to me THAT is why people watch me lift.

PS - it's nice to be allowed to post pictures from my gym again, now that I can legally go [and am not being literally followed to the gym by the police like I was during the Vaccine Passport nonsense].

The dude in the red shirt there actually came up to me to ask me about that lift after, lol.

That particular trap bar is very low - I've never been able to go higher than 550 on that particular bar, whereas I've gotten to 620+ on higher bars.

Providing I don't get any injuries [knock on wood], I think this will be stronger this year at 40 than I was at 25.

I feel we all need to be realistic - my goal for bench/squat/deadlift is 315/405/495 @175-lb [approx. 80-kg]. Anything over that is a bonus. If I could exceed those by 40- to 60-lb, that's just a bonus to me.

I think it's one of three possibilities, Matt:

1.  You loud smack-talk yourself and/or make 'special noises' that you're not telling us about

2.  They are wondering why a ballet dancer needs to be that strong

3.  They are GetBig lurkers, and simply cannot believe they are looking at the Matt Canning, and with that knowledge comes the realisation that they had better not talk too loudly about COVID mandates, HIV infections, the Jewish globalist cabal or your parenting skills, or you will drag them outside and summarily execute them before handing yourself in to the authorities...












Or maybe they just think you are strong ;D

If you dont pay attention to others how is it you manage to catch them looking at you?

I have a timer set for 60 minutes.
80-90% of max.
3-5 minutes between sets or so.

I work up in weight, if it feels too heavy I take off some weight, do a couple sets, then add back weight, etc.
I'm almost 64 so trying to hang on/build strength but it's tough, particularly with pressing.
I did the lat pulldowns in between some of the early sets.
Just something different to mix it up.

45 Min

3 sets  Chest Machine Press / DB Squats - 10/10
5 sets - Leg Press / Barbell Flat Bench - 10/10
3 sets - DB set ups / Incline DB press - 10/10
3 sets - Leg Extensions / Low Cable Fly - 10/10
3 sets - Leg Curls /High Cable Fly - 10/10
3 sets - Tri Push Down / Calf Raise - 10/10

30 Min - Bas Rutten All Around Fighting w 8 ;b handweights

15 Min - Assault Bike / Leg raises - alternate every 30 secs.

I've seen it programmed at 70% of max for 3 reps, and 80% for 2.

Chest + Abs:

DB Inclines - 5 X 10-12
DB Flyes - 5X 10-12
Elevated Pushups - 2 X failure
Crunches- 5 X failure

Constant weight about a minutes rest between sets.

Felt great to train again....I needed that bit of time off....was losing my enthusiasm to train.

Depressed much ?  :D

no plates, just the weight of the frame
Didnt count reps just did super slow constant tension stretch at the bottom no lockouts at the top.
when I struggled getting up on the last rep I rocked back on my heels and flexed my quads as hard as I could for around 90seconds

Legs tightening up and sore now

That was one set

Going to look at incorporating this idea for all bodyparts

Get fully warmed up then one all out set

Likely be in and out the gym in 15-20 minutes
