Oddly enough, I can squat, bench, and do back work pretty heavy, yet I still struggle with standing barbell curls. I just can’t get in the groove with those.
Curious.
I actually got decently strong on Olympic bar BB curls when I was doing DC. One day, as a goof, I wanted to see how many times I could curl 100. I think I got 38? Or was it 41? (It's been 18 years or more  I still have my training logs on an old HD somewhere, but I'm not slogging through that crap to verify a useless figure.)
The form wasn't Mila Kunis pretty, but all reps were full ROM, and none involved that reverse power cleaning b.s.
Weirdly, my standing DB curls, alternate or bilateral, never measured up. I could do the 50s for a super strict set of 12, but I could do basically the same on a low incline DB curl (?!). I would have to cheat like crazy to curl a pair of 60s for just a few reps :/ I was natural then, and I heavily favoured BB curls, incline DBC and a Hammer preacher curl machine for most of my DC days...mere lack of relative practice with upright DB curling could be culprit in part.
