Hopefully not. The only reason for lockdown in the past was because the hospitals would be overwhelmed. If there is one, it will just be to placate the zero covid mob. The vast majority won't be sticking to it and rightly so.
The average length of stay in hospital for covid cases was just under 2 weeks. For Omicron it's a few days.
Omicron isn't infecting the lungs as effectively as the other variants, it sticks in the throat (also why it's spreading so easily) So fewer people requiring oxygen and less severe illness. People just feel run down shitty. This is across all age groups.
Lockdowns are already planned, a two week circuit breaker which will last until March
Thats why they are ramping up testing and telling people a runny nose is a sign of Omicron, the vast majority of people probably have omocron already but dont have any real symptoms.
The overwhelming hospitals is now because of staff shortages due to the reason I have just given above
This is going to happen every year, people may as well get used to following it or ignoring it, I choose the latter
