Truth in this post
Similar I don’t frequent hardcore gyms either and have only seen 315 benched once by a fat bloke who stopped about halfway down to his chest on every rep
Yeah most commercial gyms it's rare to see anything over 300 bench pressed.
The gym i go to today i haven't seen a guy even attempt that much and the the only person who presses the 100+ DB's is myself, at least that i have seen. But it's a small gym.
Seen a few CrossFit dudes deadlifting over 500 pounds, which was impressive.
When i lived in Houston and trained at a 24 hour fitness known for having real lifters and BBer's, you would see guys working up to around 400 pounds quite regularly. But this wasn't a normal gym. It was formerly a World Gym and had a hardcore atmosphere to it for about 10-15 years.
The powerlifting gym i trained at on the West side of Houston had 100 pound plates and like 6 squat racks. DB's up to 160. Lots of guys in there used to bench 500 or so, but the gym was owned by a guy who help run the WABDL federation and gave guys memberships for $15 a month. People drove over an hour to get there.
They had everything you could imagine. Only place i've seen a glute/ham raise machine, bands/chains, chalk stations ,etc. They had old school machines from the 70's. It was great but he went out of business, no money in hardcore gyms. Tried to tailor it to the soccer mom's and normal lifters towards the end, didn't work out. It's a Country Bar now.
