Have you priced wood paneling...or any type of decent wood these days? 1" X  6" X 8' knotty pine tongue and groove paneling $1.27 per lineal ft. or $2.53 per sq. ft. from Home Depot...not usually the best quality. This is around $1,000. for a 12' X 12' room with 8' high walls minus any cutouts for doors and windows.

Pine is probably one of the least expensive wood types used for paneling. It also appears to be what is in Bhank's condo. You can install and finish, including painting drywall for the same price as it cost just to purchase the pine paneling product before it is installed and finished. The cost to install, seal, stain and top coat wood paneling is likely considerably more expensive than it is to finish drywall because it's more labor intensive. The benefit is that you end up with a unique appearance that drywall cannot provide.
