Do not count me among those few. It is silly and ridiculous. So much so, that it is hard to believe it isn't a joke.

Lately, I've been feeling like such a rebel. While there is no current mask mandate in Oregon, I see more and more folks wearing them everywhere I go. What really makes me laugh are the folks who are the only occupant in their vehicle driving around with their mask on. Who knows, maybe they are so comfortable wearing it they forget it is on. Since I feel like I am suffocating when I must wear one at the doctor’s office or when picking up a prescription at the pharmacy because they are still required in these situations. The place where they are required that IMO is beyond stupid is at the dentist's office. Obviously, one cannot wear one while they are getting their teeth cleaned, examined, or x-rayed which comprises the bulk of the time spent at the dentist.

Not so strange considering you have sometimes misjudged me.

I still follow the rules when it is required. IMO, it is easier than bucking them and arguing with strangers about things that aren’t that important. Saying I am a rebel was a half-assed joke. There are plenty of us rebels at the grocery store and elsewhere in public where masks are not mandated. Rather than being "sheep" we throw caution to the wind by not constantly living in fear of COVID. It helps that I caught it, and it wasn't that big a deal for me.

My hearing and vertigo have improved greatly in the past couple of weeks. In fact, I am hearing better without the use of the hearing aids than I have in many years. -Still have tinnitus which impacts my ability to hear some things.

A person's children grown or not, cannot be held responsible for their parents' debts, regardless of whether the parent is deceased or still alive. This would include debts owed to the IRS.

Why did the IRS send the money after her stepdad died in the first place? As best as I know, the IRS doesn't randomly send folks money dead or alive. When folks file their taxes if they've overpaid their income tax throughout the year, they get a tax return.

Social Security does have a death benefit which they pay to the children of the deceased when qualified. However Social Security is a separate entity from the IRS. If somehow a death benefit was paid in error, the IRS wouldn't be collecting it Social Security would.

My question is, did you pay the $400 to the IRS for her?

Of course I didn’t pay it. I'm not entirely sure that my wife didn't though since it's her mother.

Not that it's your business but I help her out on plenty and didn't feel this was my obligation. I don't feel its her obligation either. She isn't affraid to ask for help when she needs it and I do offer when it's necessary But she's an adukt and she spends her money in ways that I wouldn't if I were in her position. So there's that. Regardless paying back 400 (it was actually more than 400 but retelling the story from the best of my memory I just went with 400 for arguments sake. Id have to ask about social security vs. IRS though to be sure) so 400 bucks from 50 years for something that was supposed to be a benefit in the first place is ridiculous.

As to whether or not my comments were helpful? I sure as fuck hope so. That was the point. But like the saying goes: you can lead a horse to water but you can't make em drink it.
