Just look at the movie "Black Hawk Down".

We (Americans) like to be the saviors of the world, but we walked into a shitstorm with the civil war that was going on.

Isn't that what the United Nations is for? Keep the actual countries and armed forces out of those conflicts, and have a standing force, from people all over the world, that can help fight atrocities to innocent people.
