Thank you for you wise words...we are all part of the human race. Hopefully, they aren't completely lost on a few folks here who sometimes think of and treat other folks as less then human.

I think that, in many ways, religions and racial or ethnic distinctions have served but to cause a social divide amongst humans. We all inhabit this earth and it would truly be in our best interests to find ways to improve our experiences during the limited time we have to live on this planet.

I don't care where you come from, what color skin you have or the texture of your hair. If you treat me with respect, I will do the same and show you friendship. The way I see it, none of us are getting out of this alive, so why consider yourself special? We are all doomed. The least we can do is have fun and make as many friends as possible.

Well, there is “genetics” and then there is “race”. Jews definitely have distinctive genetics, just like other groupings of people do. If you do your own DNA research, you may come back that you are 20 percent Ashkenazi Jew (as an example) or zero or 90 percent. But genetics is not exactly race. Although some people are back skinned or white skinned or “yellow” skinned, “race” is really more about how people see each other than their exact genetics. In the United States, we see lots of people as black who actually may have just as much white as black in them. In the Dominican Republic, by comparison, people see each other as white when they are looking at you from a black skinned face.

So that is where race comes in for Jews and where Whoopi Goldberg f….ed up. The Nazis SAW Jews as a separate race and performed atrocities accordingly. No matter how Jewish people might see themselves today, they suffered terribly under a racial label.

I think race is real but one can play semantic games if they wish, call it gene clusters or wtf ever if "race" is so toxic. Geneticists are now debating how to frame new genetic science so people don't get the "wrong idea," because science is racist. An example is that they are close to mapping the genes for intelligence and when it's shown that intelligence and other cognitive traits aren't uniformly distributed among "races" there is a conundrum, because only white supremacists believe races differ. The idea that human groups, "races," only differ by skin color is asinine to the extreme - no one actually believes it but few dare say it. Look at what happened to James Watson. Ridiculous.

The fact that it is a “social construct” does not mean that it does not exist. Also, it swirls completely around genetic distinctions, which do exist. Because blacks in the US see themselves as “black” no matter how much “white” genetics they may have in them, I respect their choice to say my race is Black. Peoples’ identities and experiences truly DO MATTER as much as their biology for better or worse. As well as how others see you (e.g., Nazis and Jews). I guess we just need to see it for what it is, somewhat genetic, somewhat dependent on “social construct”.

My objection would be to assumptions of genetic determinism. For one thing, I don't accept that I'm an automaton, without any volition or reason of my own, at the mercy of my genetic program. Secondly, if we posit that physical characteristics like genetics or phrenology determine people's actions then we can't justifiably hold them morally culpable.

I never liked the nature/nurture debate. It ignores self determination which is 99% of life.
