LASTLY...you once sort of said I didn't *really* train with with the JTF-2.
But I did - I mean it was only for two months, but I was officially paid as a regular forces soldier for one of those two months.
I mean, come on...that doesn't count? I'm not claiming I was an active member! But I did train and work with them for two months in May/June 2002!
Give me that at least!
Haha, I would, Matt, but I honestly think you're confusing regional joint task forces of the regular Canadian military with JTF2, your very small group of special operations guys.
A Joint Task Force (JTF) was formed specifically to assist in the conduct of the G8 Summit. But it refers to a task force set up between regular army, local law enforcement, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to promote interagency cooperation during the Summit and secure the site. That's not the JTF2 unit and there's no emblem of theirs on your certificate.
This paragraph documents how the JTF for Op Grizzly was broken down:
"Although there was a regular infantry battalion on stand-by as a contingency force of last resort, the majority of the Canadian Forces contribution was in support of logistics, infrastructure, communications, ceremonial and command post activities.
In addition to a JTF Headquarters (HQ), JTF GRIZZLY was broken down into four components: a Land Component, based on 1 Canadian
Mechanized Brigade Group (1 CMBG) whose primary task was to assist the RCMP in securing the approaches to the Kananaskis site; a Support Component, based on 1 Area Support Group (1 ASG) whose main tasks were to support the JTF logistically and administratively, provide a NBC Decontamination capability, and to assist the SMO with movement control, transportation, communications."
You'd have been working alongside regular infantry guys, but I'm fairly sure JTF2 would have been much too busy doing other things to have sent a team to liaise with the RCMP and infantry on a task like this. There would have been one or two senior guys kicking around in the general area, no doubt, but I can't imagine you'd have had anything to do with them. I may well stand corrected, and perhaps you still have contacts who can confirm, but it just doesn't seem likely.
