Warlord, Bulldog, Crush … Yeah, a few known to be brutal strong.
Thanks for writing all that. Fun to read.
I've posted stuff about those 3 in the past. Warlord is the biggest bbing type physique I've seen in person. I short so am a bad judge of height, but I'm guessing 6''3"+. I did ask him what he was weighing and he said around 320. I swear that dude's traps went up to the bottom of his ears. I was just a young gym hand in HS so I had to re-rack people's weights, and they talked to me a bit in between their sets. Bulldog asked me if I wanted to go to the show, and after telling him "hey, I'm a hs kid making min wage...can't afford it". He asked if I had I ride if I could go...told him yeah...he told me to go put my name on a piece of paper and show up with whoever I wanted to bring at the "will call" window. I didn't even know wtf that meant. Got there, and asked security where this will call window thing was, walked up, said my name, and she said "some huge dude left these for you". Fucker gave us like section of the ring like only 5 rows back. The funny thing is him and Warlord trained together for the two days they were here, and ended up wrestling each other that night....so they do break character in public as far as hating each other.
I know Warlord got busted a couple years later importing juice from the UK, and got prison. Never seen him again. Bulldog came through once more, and I went over to thank him for hooking me up last time they were in town. He didn't remember my name, but he remembered me working there and asked if he did a good enough job with the seats? I said fuck yeah, I thought you were going to have us in the bleachers if you even remembered to have them for us at all. He told me he was glad I liked the show, and go write my name down again for the show that night......said I had to spot him first though. Fair deal. Beverly Brothers did the same another time. Basically anyone on the staff that talked to them got free tickets.
Ed Connors was part owner of the Gold's locs we had here. I assume he knew Vince as we were instructed to always let them train for free while they were in town.
Actually met Ed once. Kinda weird story there, but he was a nice guy, gave me his cell phone, and told me anytime I visited CA I had a place to stay, and that my boss/co-owner told him I was great at my job (this was years later when I was doing sales/ assistant manager), and if I ever moved to CA that I would have a job waiting. I knew "things"....I know you do to. Many things said aren't true, but still enough to make me not consider either offer.
Thanks for the reply and compliment. I enjoyed many of your stories, and articles growing up, so kinda cool to hear you enjoyed one of mine. Always thought you were one lucky bastard (well deserved though) to have landed that gig, and be around the craziness back then.
I think it would be cool if you did a thread talking about how you met RK, and got the job, along with some stories you couldn't put in the mag.
