I didn't even know the Oscars were tonight. To think this event had around a billion viewers around 1994-1995. Meanwhile, they've been hitting 25 million lately.

What about the 6 second-or-so lag time. Im pretty sure in previous awards shows there was a bit of a lag time between what was live and what was aired. To prevent situations like the 'wardrobe malfunction.' Or if some one went off on a profane tirade they had the option of not airing it.

I know they cut out the audio but what happened to that little protection/option of blacking it out?

Will Smith did nothing wrong. Chris Rock learned a valuable lesson. ESFitness would have taken things to the next level, but Will Smith just wanted end this. Chris Rock had made comments in 2016 and 2022. Who knows what was said in between those two events. Smith ended it. Chris Rock probably hasn’t been hit like that in at least 40 years.

The story you told isn't really comparable. Most people are way better at brushing off stuff about themselves than they are at dismissing stuff about people they care about. If you were at the comedy club with a date (I know, that's unlikely, just go with it) and the comedian started in on your date in regards to something that was a sore point and it was reasonable to assume the comedian was aware of that,maybe you'd respond the same, but a lot of men would not. Pretty much everyone has a set of circumstances where words stop just being sounds and need to be checked. The fact that you were in a not all that similar situation at one point and didn't react the same way doesn't really change that.

The LAPD asked Rock if he wanted to press charges over a slap. If you are going to assault someone in front of millions of people, you might as well punch the guy, instead of a sissy bitch slap.

If I were the cops, I would have arrested Smith anyway. Everyone saw an assault happen live. At that point it shouldn't be in Chris Rock's hands whether he wanted to press charges.
