Everything in Hollywood happens 6 months later.  Will probably has several films in the can or current commitments that can't be broken so movie executives won't have to risk anything.  They'll see how these films do in the next 6 months (and they'll probably do the same or fine) and only then have to decide whether audiences no longer like him.

     It was staged to some degree. I can't believe I even got fooled. But there is what's called a "match on action" edit that simply could not have been predicted by the director. Right after the slap, a cut captures a seamless transition to Will Smith walking away from the slap from a different camera angle. No camera crew would be prepared for shots out of sequence like that. I worked at the Geffen Theater with Gil Cates who directed the Oscars for years, and it's very scripted, and shots are planned out.

And here there are multiple reaction shots, with an establishing shot that keeps everything cinematically perfect. This does not happen with events that are not scripted. You'll get some odd angles, weird cuts and visual disorder if no one knows what's going on.

First, international media coverage.  There are multiple threads about Will Smith on Getbigs main page alone, and not one of them about his Oscar win. Remember King Richard is a BOMB at the box office. For a movie to tank with an Oscar winning performance means Will's public image is in trouble. He's too tame.

It's also high profile pitch to his wife to save his marriage. Jada was Tupac's main girl since high school. I'm sure she views Willy as weak and safe like his rap career.
