A good read on the subject:

How (and Why) Athletes Go Broke | Sports Illustrated Vault | SI.com

https://vault.si.com/vault/2009/03/23/how-and-why-athletes-go-broke

RECESSION OR NO RECESSION, MANY NFL, NBA AND MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL PLAYERS HAVE A PENCHANT FOR LOSING MOST OR ALL OF THEIR MONEY. IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW MUCH THEY MAKE. AND THE WAYS THEY BLOW IT ARE STRIKINGLY SIMILAR

I read this, ESPN did a 30 for 30 called Broke on athletes going broke. It seems most of these entertainers “learned” from Hammers mistakes. Musicians going broke still make money off of royalty right’s, so they may not be financially “secure” but they have income streams.

There seems to be less articles about athletes going broke like there was in the 90s and 2000s, but I remember Warren Sapp declared bankruptcy after losing his job at the NFL network of course Michael Vick was broke when he went to prison.

Having money doesn’t mean you can handle it.

I read somewhere that Wahlberg said he would make his fortune by not turning down movie roles. Just adding movie after movie. Probably knows he isn't some Oscar caliper Actor so he'll outwork everybody and gain influence in Hollywood that way.

Stumbled onto this one:

https://www.cbssports.com/tennis/news/tennis-legend-boris-becker-faces-jail-time-following-guilty-verdict-in-bankruptcy-trial/

The six-time Grand Slam champion stated that his $50 million in career earnings had gone to payments for an "expensive divorce," and other various debts. Becker also stated that he had "expensive lifestyle commitments," including a house in Wimbledon that cost 22,000 pounds ($28,800) in monthly rent.

I can see that working for him. He's a crappy actor, but has enough charisma to land roles.

Always comes across like the stereotypical super-insecure overcompensating douchebag manlet, no hate ;D (trying super-hard to act like a tough guy, while everyone is just laughing at him behind his back)

Who?  Valentino or Wahlburger?

Why? He inhabits his characters in their roles.

I guess I’ll never understand this “good/bad actor” thing.

I’ve seen bad acting. But a majority, freeing themselves of being self-concious, act perfectly fine. “Exceptional acting” usually is simply a particular individual’s look and personality meshing well with a particular role. And great dialogue (not a product of the actor) and a liked personality.

Meryl Streep in The Bridges of Madison County strikes me as good acting plus a little extra.

However, perfectly serviceable acting would appear to be mostly attainable by most anyone, with a few exceptions.

Kids who’ve never acted act. Rappers act. Pop stars act. EVERYONE acts.

John Wayne pretty much played "John Wayne" in every role.  With at least one exception, that huge turd of lifetime role of "Ghengis Kahn" in, "The Conqueror".

Surprisingly the HOA and property tax bill on it are only a little bit under $100,000 a year (in line with the 9 mill -ish he paid for it in 2009), I was expecting it to be much higher. Granted the upkeep probably adds another few $100,000 to the yearly bill.

It's likely the after effects of Prop 13, the amendment that restricts property tax increases to 2% annually.  Leads to some real inequitable results--as we see here

The "greatest" actors, here defined as most bankable, usually play the same character personality in all their films.

DeNiro, Wayne, Eastwood, Bruce Willis, The Rock, Gary Cooper, Stallone, etc.  all the same in every movie.

Bruce Willis expanded his roles. From “Die Hard” to “Last Boy Scout” to “12 Monkeys” to “Pulp Fiction” to “Sixth Sense” to “Unbreakable” to “Armageddon”.

He was willing to try different roles.

That makes sense. You know from his physique that he puts the time into training. He probably has that work ethic all around.
