Why? He inhabits his characters in their roles.
I guess I’ll never understand this “good/bad actor” thing.
I’ve seen bad acting. But a majority, freeing themselves of being self-concious, act perfectly fine. “Exceptional acting” usually is simply a particular individual’s look and personality meshing well with a particular role. And great dialogue (not a product of the actor) and a liked personality.
Meryl Streep in The Bridges of Madison County strikes me as good acting plus a little extra.
However, perfectly serviceable acting would appear to be mostly attainable by most anyone, with a few exceptions.
Kids who’ve never acted act. Rappers act. Pop stars act. EVERYONE acts.
When I think of good actors, I think of Anthony Hopkins, Denzel Washington, Daniel Day Lewis, Christian Bale, Kevin Spacey, Javier Bardem, Tommy Lee Jones.
When I think of crappy actors, I think of Sean Penn, Jaden Smith, 50 Cent, Kirk Cameron, Tyler Perry, Pauly Shore etc.
Mark Wahlberg has always struck me as a good entertainer overall. He was fun to watch when he rapped with the funky bunch. He was entertaining as the face of Calvin Klein for a few years. He was entertaining in a few movie roles. He has hosted a few shows and was pretty good as well. Every time he does videos on social media they're pretty good. He never stood out as a good actor to me, but as an entertainer that acts. Again, it depends on what you consider good acting.
