KYIV/LVIV, Ukraine, April 14 (Reuters) - Russia said its lead warship in the Black Sea sank on Thursday after an explosion and fire that Ukraine claimed was caused by a missile strike, dealing a blow to Moscow as it readied for new attacks that were likely to determine the conflict's outcome. The Moskva, Russia's flagship in its Black Sea fleet, sank as it was being towed to port in stormy weather, Russian news agencies quoted the defence ministry as saying.Russia said earlier that over 500 crew aboard the Soviet-era missile cruiser were evacuated after ammunition on board exploded. Ukraine said it hit the warship with a Ukrainian-made Neptune anti-ship missile.Russia, which has not acknowledged an attack, said the incident is under investigation. Residents of Odesa and Mariupol, on the adjacent Azov Sea, have been bracing for new Russian attacks. The United States said it did not have enough information to determine whether the Moskva was hit by a missile."(But) certainly, the way this unfolded, it's a big blow to Russia," said national security adviser Jake Sullivan.Russian forces have pulled back from some northern parts of Ukraine after suffering heavy losses and failing to take the capital Kyiv. Ukraine and its Western allies say Moscow is redeploying for a new offensive in the eastern Donbas region.Russia launched its assault in part to dissuade Ukraine from joining NATO. But the invasion has pushed Finland, which shares a long border with Russia, and nearby Sweden to consider joining the U.S.-led military alliance. Moscow warned NATO on Thursday that if Sweden and Finland join, Russia would deploy nuclear weapons and hypersonic missiles in a Russian enclave on the Baltic Sea, in the heart of Europe. Commenting on Russia's military setbacks, CIA Director Williams Burns said the threat of Russia potentially using nuclear weapons in Ukraine cannot be taken lightly, but that the agency has not seen much practical evidence reinforcing that concern.
I don’t think they have a competent armed forces, but what they lack in tactic they make up with it in cannon fodder. I believe they’ll still win even with all of their blunders.
Getbiggers - take note who's rooting for Ukraine. All the Trump hating, American hating traitors. Now you know why Team Vlad / Putin is the only way to go!
Getbiggers - take note who's rooting for Ukraine. All the Trump hating, American hating traitors Loving Patriots. Now you know why Team Vlad / Putin is the only way to go!
what does a "win" look likethey've never be able to occupy the entire country
Putin is getting beat just as bad as his little lap down Trumpy was. Take note.
I would say what I believe Russia will get, which is recognition of Crimea being part of Russia and the two separatist regions in Donbas becoming Russian vassals. That would be a win for them, no matter how many more soldiers lives they lose than Ukraine. Russian czars/dictators have never really cared about their people. While they may be taking a beating numbers wise on the battlefield, all they have to do is lane the knockout blow and they win. We’ll see :-/
It didn’t sink. The ship is currently on an special underwater mission.
and what is the "knockout" blowalso no matter what happens (unless Putin is ousted) the sanctions won't go away and Russia/Putin will be a pariah and Russia's economy will get crushed and will become another North Korea
Force Ukraine to capitulate by brute force whether it be bombing cities, beating their armed forces, or starving their supply lines. I agree, Putin is a pariah on the world stage already. But, unless he is overthrown by his people or generals, why would he care? He’s living like a modern day Czar and dudes like this don’t ever think the ride is going to end.
you forgot to mention destroying apartment buildings, maternity hospitals, schools, etc.. and mass murdering civiliansthat's mostly what they are doing Ukrainians are never going to give up and allow themselves to be occupied
Why don't you,OAK,Prime,Sean Penn & other suckers travel to Kyiv & sort out those Russians ............ Really, didn't Germans & Russians occupied them for a while .............. OBW, congratulation to Mr.Putin for another victory (Mariupol) , Volodymyr must be craying on CNN all day long .................
