Matt, I can not do 1 rep with a pair of hundreds!  I was never a great presser and my best will seem feeble compared to not only your but everyone here, LOL!

Maybe 16 years ago I was still able to clean an press a pair of 85s with 3 inch handles for three sets of 6 to 8 reps.  I think I weighed about 230 or so.  You are much stronger on the press.  People just like to chide you as we would a younger brother.  Be well.

Matt did you post the pressing videos to show us your strength? Dumbbells angled slightly or not you are still strong as fuck to press them.
If you are posting to check your form for bodybuilding yea come down a bit lower and drop the weight to really feel the burn in the delts.

I just went on YouTube and searched for every video on the platform for dumbbell presses of 100-lb or more, to check form. This is what I found:









Go to the 4 minute mark:



Go to 4:20:



Go to 3:33:



^ Numerous sets they do are done with a limited range of motion.

George Leeman had the best form, and got 38 reps:



^ Meaning that NO ONE on Getbig can do 100-lb dumbbells for 38.

I can do 10 on a good day with my range of motion being SLIGHTLY shorter than George's. I'm curious how many reps the people criticizing me can get.

For people to be trashing my lift, which wasn't that bad - and better than any example I found on YouTube with the same weight - just astounds me.

Polite, constructive criticism, I can handle. But for a group of men, NOT ONE OF WHOM is is as strong as me to talk shit. Seriously?

I literally SCOURED YouTube for videos of men shoulder pressing 100-lb dumbbells or more, and maybe 1 in 5 videos show a range of motion greater than mine.

Meaning: there is NOTHING wrong with my range of motion - nothing! As if every single rep needs to be like an instruction video - that's just not true.

My reps are fine.

Taking them down 2-3", and they'd be perfect.

But after going on YouTube and finding the above videos, I can now no longer take comments about my form seriously.

Why would I? It's clear some of you are criticizing me just for the same of being critical, and nothing more.
You see Leeman and the guy with the black shirt and green logo on it? They go hands to their chin, that's the correct depth.
Most of this guys reps are good too.

There is NOTHING remotely weak about pressing 100-lb dumbbells for one rep, and if you narrowly missed it, that's nothing to be sad about.

I have not seen one person press dumbbells of 100-lb or more since coming back to the gym post-pandemic...well...other than me.

I will acknowledge my form wasn't perfect, but it wasn't horrible. And for that weight + number of reps, it wasn't bad at all.

I have only found maybe 2-3 videos on YouTube of anyone going my range of motion or lower.

I take no issue with constructive criticism - but people calling me a weakling, or saying I have a foot lower to go, or saying I couldn't get one proper rep with the 100's...that I take issue with.

I would say that I probably have the strength to get a rep with the 110's...but it would be a struggle. But if I had a coach with me by my side to analyze my lift every step of the way, I think I could do it.

As I said, I don't mind constructive criticism, but when I post a video of a heavy set with decent form for reps that I'm proud of, I have to say it's just irritating to have people talk like I was using the worst form in the world when I clearly wasn't

You're right. As usual, you are right.

I have spent this entire time complimenting B. Hank's physique, defending him against trash talk from others, and generally being courteous and kind to him. That's why I just don't get why he felt the need to rip into me like he did.

He just really had to make it a point to say I couldn't get one rep with the 100's, which I can literally do with a 2-5 second pause. And saying I have a full foot lower to bring the dumbbells when I PHYSICALLY CANNOT lower the dumbbells a foot more.

That's just him trying to bring me down for the sake of bringing me down, when I've been nothing but supportive of him. But I won't be supportive again - not after that.

If he said "You need to go a few inches lower on your reps. You may get a few fewer reps if you do that", I'd be fine with that.

But to discount entirely a pretty good set just because my form was slightly imperfect - that's bullshit.

Maybe if i did the entire range of motion I'd only get 4-5 reps with the 100-lb dumbbells. If I used Eddie Hall's no lockout reps with proper depth, I'd probably get six reps.

Either way, it was a pretty good lift.

Hopefully I'll be on track to get the 110's for 2-4 reps pretty soon, which would be a personal record for me.

I'm happy to say that I should be competitive again in the 80-kg class of Canadian Strongman. Yes, it's the lightest division, but I personally feel my best when I am strong and light.

I do prefer how many physique looks at 200-lb though, but if I can find a good diet for myself, maybe I could be 180 at 12-14% body fat, and be close to my competition weight, and still have the physique of someone in good shape. One thing about heavyweight Strongmen is that they don't necessarily look like they are in shape.

I'm striving for a look where I can be in shape while also being strong, and having mobility and stamina. I'm a work in progress, just seeking to fine tune things over time.

Dumbbells angled slightly or not you are still strong as fuck to press them.
If you are posting to check your form for bodybuilding yea come down a bit lower and drop the weight to really feel the burn in the delts.

I appreciate the constructive criticism, bench.

Next time, I will be going down a few inches lower, even if that eats up a few reps in the process.

Too bad one of my gyms doesn't have the 105's, because I could use them right now. But - maybe one more week practicing with the 100's will serve me well.

I feel that my wrists may need to be strengthened too. Maybe my hands in general are just not very strong. My grip is my weak link for my deadlift, for instance.

Anyway, I will be making the adjustments that you specified, for my next workout, hench. Thank you for the advice! I am always open to apply anything that will help me improve from one workout to the next, and I now see my presses are slightly too high on the bottom range of motion, and I will be adjusting that accordingly.  :)

Honestly, I don't even consider myself to be that fat. What is the average North American? Over 50%?

I think 15-18% is a good body fat level to maintain for everyday life.

I'd say anything under 10% requires a practically obsessive level of dieting - as well as, most likely, PED intervention.

You are a foot to high but you dont want to listen you just want to argue use less weight and learn the movement your hands should be shoulder height the dumbells should rest on the shoulders at the bottom you should be able to hold them and relax at the bottom you are bringing your hands to the top of your head which is a foot higher than your shoulders

Also you keep talking about your set no set where your wrist are bent at 45 degrees and the dumbells are crooked is a good set do you see anyone else doing that in any of the videos you posted?

I carefully explained the issue in a video trying to actually help the guy so he can make gains but he just gets defensive starts calling me names and claiming to be the strongest man in the world instead of fixing his form. He has too much ego to back the weight down and do it right. He says it isn't about training just calories and drugs yet his shit diet and shit training with drugs got him fat with tits. He says his chest will never grow but then will argue to the death with if anyone who points out his poor training form being responsible. Now he is pulling the I can't go lower my elbows dont bend that far bullshit. Meanwhile he literally starts rep one with the dumbells resting on his shoulders he can' bring them back down to where they started? Then he wants to argue he is touching his shoulders when one side of the dumbell at a 45 degree angle touches and the other side is above his head wtf????
