Time to diet - no one diet and training
« on: August 31, 2022, 03:22:39 AM »
My wife finally said it’s time for her to diet….. so naturally she is making me to. Mountain bike season starts 1st Sept (Spring) and I need to be much lighter on the bike for my upcoming trips.

Calories not quite at the no one/Galeniko level but 1,000 mark or so. No one liked 700cal days but it’s crazy hard to do that every day.

Wife is cooking our food. I have chicken and lettuce for lunch. Dinner is rice and mince (flavoured) or rice and fish. Day 2 sucked the most, day 3 today is fine.

Haven’t lifted weights for a year. When I trained like no one did 5-6yrs ago I looked my best so I’m going to do that this time around. Requires time to get tendons adjusted so will do weights, you can’t go straight into 7 days a week because you will be in utter agony.

Taking 250/wk test Enth.

If you're trying to get better at bike riding, I'd focus on that combined w a moderate diet to support your training and promote weight loss.

Galeniko diet is really effective and I'm a fan, but not really conducive to things like "athletic performance"  ;D

I personally would have started the Test once I got into decent shape naturally.....muscle memory is a good thing to take advantage of.....why waste gear when you will make gains rebuilding what you previously had fairly easy, well much easier than you would if you had never trained before.

700 calories on a steady basis is not good IMO....I have done 800 close to a contest for a few days, but not much longer than that..........have also done 2 weeks with zero carbs.....almost blacked out on several occasions......had to leave the gym and hit the store across the street and wolf down some cupcakes and breakfast bars just to be able to think clearly.

Keep protein high and cycle your carbs is my advice.

Just my 3 CC`s !

Biking on 1K calories or less? Is that enough energy (calories) to support that?
Plus 7-days a week of weights?

I am a big fan of folks experimenting, curious to see how it works out for you. Best of luck to you and your wife...

have a daily calorie intake goal and fill it foods dense in micronutrients

usually Whole Foods , natural - start basic with oats rice meat fish - and add spices and flavor, cooking methods and build a routine

your body will reward you by doing this - I think a lot of these idiots "anxiety" in life is eating like a goddam cirrus clown act ?  you digestion system has to work hard to ABSORB nutrients - not fckn have mouth orgasms

If not enough protein is eaten your body will catabolize muscle tissue.....how much glucose and glycogen are you gonna` have eating calories that low?

no one and Gal looked great but lets not forget they didn`t always do this and were probably both on more gear than you are using.

As Gym Rat said, good luck to you both and if you need to make adjustments just do so......don`t stick to a plan if it`s not producing results.

I strategy I’ve used for long term weight maintenance is to have a fixed time at night when you stop eating. For me it’s 8pm. This keeps you from running up the calories that come from eating out of boredom.

Good luck mayday. I’ve been on a protein shake only diet for somewhere around 9 days now. 6 shakes a day 960 calories,150g protein,30g carbs,36g fat. Doing 10 miles a of cardio every other day and weights every other day. I’m enjoying it. Plenty of energy, strength etc… I am used to low calorie keto though so no big deal here.

Nighttime when you’re sitting around watching tv is when a lot of the unnecessary eating happens. You’re continually seeing commercials for pizza and burgers.. I believe there are studies that confirm this.

The crackhead diet lol. If you're too far out of shape, you'll most likely end up cheating too much or stagnating. Better just to search bethere's contest prep threads and eat sensibly. Bit of carbs, and more protein.

This topic has been done to death to an absurd extent. It’s really not rocket science. Just cut back on unnecessary carbs and fats and leave the protein as is.

And for general health, I’ve found it beneficial to eat a green leafy salad daily.

How hard can this be, lol? Just calorie count, stick to a high carb, moderate protein, moderate fat diet. Start at about 10 calories per pound bodyweight if you want to lose. Anything lower than that is stupid since you will drop muscle like a rock. Losing 2 pounds a week is easy and not stressful. No trendy fasting, no extreme macronutrient shifts- just a gradual cutting back of calories. Your stomach will get used to less food very quickly

Bicycling is 99% carbs. You can get by on 100g of protein and not have issues.

For the record, I recently went from 206 to 189 in 8 weeks doing exactly the above. I bicycle race and have no issues on 2200-2400 calories a day while leaning out.

One diet plan does not fit all. Not all people have the same goals. Folks are distinct sizes in terms of bone structure, height, and body type (ecto, endo, and meso). We are different ages, follow a variety of exercise routines, have unique metabolisms and overall, endless possible genetic makeups. Someone else's diet plan is a good starting point but stay open to adjustments along the way and tailor the diet to your specific needs and targets.

A sensible diet is more likely to result in success than one that is difficult to follow and maintain.

You can come up with a diet plan in a few minutes. The hard part is in the execution.

^^^^THIS

Execution is when the work begins as more than likely your comfort zone will no longer exist.....if it does exist, you`ll fail.

The Gal/No one starvation diet is a terrible idea if you are active.

Also, they used a lot of drugs to help get that lean.

Like many have said, just make healthy choices and slowly reduce your calories as you lose weight. Don't try to do too much, you will just burn out.

I'm a fan of moderate carbs and high protein. No carbs in the evening.

Thanks for all the responses :D

My background if track cycling then moved onto road cycling in my 20s30s and I moved to downhill mountain biking 5yrs ago. It’s all shuttles uphill, HI downhill. Energy is fine on local 2min trails for training but on my trips it’s all day events and I know 2,400 in absolute minimum for me to function.

Test at 250/wk was started to get my blood up. Yes I cheat in sport but it’s track cycling, mofos are on all sorts of things. I’m on trt anyway so I always bump up a notch 4+ weeks before my trips to get me through it then drop back once my trip is done.

Last time I did this it was 6 weeks going from zero to 12% and looking decent for an average guy (I looked great for my age). I remember struggling with low cals at that point, was eating 750/day and all day long only thought about food lol. This time I’m having 1,000 give or take and looking just to get in shape, 14% would be a milestone perhaps in 4 weeks time.

Day 4 now. I haven’t stepped on a scale, perhaps next week. Sore even from baby weights once this week.
