Not sure how many times this has to be said before people will understand you can't just starve yourself into shape. You are going from nothing to starvation with a little sauce and weight lifting thrown in on the side. Horrible plan you havent lifted in over a year so you are going to start lifting while starving yourself? Eat regular and exercise eliminating food is not how you get in shape never has been and never will be. You need energy to train and recover and grow your muscle and get the benefits of weightlifting. That new muscle is a furnace that will recomp your body but it ain't going to happen while you starve yourself.

You don't have to starve yourself but you do have to limit your food intake. Eddy Hall has 3x the muscle you will ever have and that "new muscle furnace" didn't do shit.

"In order to lose weight, Hall has also had to revamp his diet. While it still amounts to 7000 calories a day, according to Joe.co.uk, Hall's daily diet now looks something like this:7.30am: One apple before morning power walkBreakfast: Steak and scrambled eggs (five eggs), one glass of orange juiceMid-morning: Whey protein shakeLunch: Two large pieces of chicken, rice, mixed vegetables and half a glass of orange juiceMid-afternoon: Chocolate granola or punnet of strawberries with Manuka honey6pm meal: Homemade chicken curry, rice and vegetables (carrots, peas and sweetcorn)Dinner (8.30pm): Large portion of air-fried chicken, two baked potatoes, asparagus, coleslaw, peppers cooked in butter and half a bottle of mayonnaiseEvening snacks: Yoghurt, nuts, honey, fruit"

Pretty simple, straightforward advice but why carbs before bed?

I mean my main meal of the day is often right before I go to bed, and has most of the day's carbs. I know they say we're supposed to do the opposite but small carb free or carb sparse meals from breakfast and through my workday make my physical job seem less effortful and I'm more mentally attuned.

"Fuel up for the work" is bullshit imo. Who's running outside to chop and haul wood after Thanksgiving dinner because they're "fueled up?" Eat heavy and you naturally feel like sleeping. The dog does the same thing, so I nosh & nod like nature intends.

When I breakfast like a king and supper like a pauper I'm dragging ass until midday and I toss and turn at night.

If I've got a lazy day I love a full fry up or yankee style breakfast of pancakes, corned beef hash, and eggs. Makes me useless for hours tho. Wouldn't want to be hopping on the trestle throwing ceilings shortly after.

yes, 100%.  I'll have coffee w milk for breakfast and one for lunch and that fuels me through the work day just fine until I come home and eat for 2 hours or so before going to bed.  Anything substantial for breakfast or lunch and I just get lethargic.  Looks like I'm in the good company of a couple hard working blokes

Makes sense to me, as gastrointestinal tract is essentially a big muscle, digestion diverts energy from the rest of your body hence the tired feeling after a big meal.
