Back in the 70`s I trained at the Springfield Ma. YMCA alongside Carl Snitkin he was a beast !!

Carlton Snitkin left this world in May 2018 at the age of 72, but long after leaving his mark on and off the platform.

He died?!

yeah it completely closed a while back now.The building was an old house and Doug Patterson who owned it tore several walls out and loaded it with weights. It was
Very small by today’s gym standards.Required a lot of cooperation from the lifters.

I can't believe it closed. That's horrible.

Do you know what year it closed?

I never thought about it as being strong as overall, I could not bench press nor deadlift much. In the squat I was alone at least in our town.

My bodyweight was 245 to 250 lbs. My last workout at a gym before moving to where they did not have enough weight.   I warmed up with 130 and then, I think 225.  Then I put 515 on the bar and knocked out 20 easy reps.  Next 535 for another 20 easy reps.  Then 585 for 5 easy reps and finally 515 for a final kinda sorta easy reps, LOL!

You squatted 535 for 20?

One day there were two San Diego Chargers in the gym and they were at the squat rack.  I think they had 505 on the bar (it has been decades so my memory on their weight is poor) and I asked if I could work in.  I was warmed up from leg extensions and leg curs so I knew I was okay.  They were much taller than me, one of them was Dennis McKnight, the other gentleman was a bit taller and I didn't know his name.

They told me they "...didn't take weight off" but I could "work in" if I "could handle it".  Big guys.  I waited and watched as they both did 5 reps with that poundage.  I got under the bar, backed out and knocked 20 easy reps then racked the weight and said something along the lines of, "Well...Since you don't take weight off, can I put more on?"

They just looked at me.  This kinda gave me an idea that maybe I was strong on the squat but keep in mind that my brothers all laughed when I told them later about this.  They said the football guys "just weren't used to training with a 'tard" and so were unprepared as they or any of my friends I would occasionally train with would have been for  my "retard strength".   ;D

Is your brother Walter Sobchak by any chance? What kind of a nimrod downplays the strength of someone who squats 535 for 20 reps? Only a person who doesn't work out can downplay such strength.

I'm convinced that your brother is Getbig member Walter Sobchak.

I was in pain for 5 years hoping it would go away. I had the surgery and the pain was gone immediately. I should have done it much sooner

Incredible. In hindsight, is there anything you would have done differently in order to prevent it?

Are you better now?  I have heard those really help.  One of my brother has had both knees replaced and I think one hip.  I will have to ask him later today.  I am home now as I cannot walk that well, LOL!

My friend's grandfather had his knees replaced at around age 80. My friend told me the technology is so good that it's like effectively having the knees of an 18-year-old. That's amazing if true.

Basically, all biological fixes are engineering fixes. I used to be strong but we didn’t carry cell phones and cameras with us at the gym cause we didn’t really care.

Bench 505 at 255
315x19
405x10
Incline bench 455
Dead 700
Ez bar curl 205x8

You can argue and say "Wiggs it's not official the guy had his hand on the bar"  your right but if you look at his hands after he spotted me he goes👌 as in he didn't help. Anyway, I have done 425 when I was 23 and on no sauce and no assistance.  And in this video, I was on clean for years.

Point is, I don't consider myself elite. Larry Wheels is elite. Tom Wishbones is elite. Me then, I was strong. I've also squatted 605 I was fat as fuck then and it felt like I had the world on my back but I did it. Also, clean. One thing to note though, I have short arms and legs and longer torso. I've never maxed deadlifted in my life.

These are 1 rep maxes. I did that 405 after coming back to the gym after a 4 month lay off. I was still young at 27.

Good shit, my friend.

Matt, no one outside of powerlifters ever asked me how much I could squat.  It was always, "Howmuchyabench?" ;D

You are very strong especially so compared to normal folk.  Trust me and others here.  Now, having said that we must all recognize that if bhanky is put into the equation, we are all crap.  ;) ;D

Thank you. I know I am no B. Hank, but I have posted good lifts for my size.

315x6 bench press at 170

https://www.instagram.com/reel/CeN1RWeADHv/

^ Walter Sobchak is two rice cakes away form *270*, and he can't do that, LOL. Sad when you aren't stronger than someone 100-lb lighter than you.

1,000+ pounds on the leg press for proper/deep reps:

https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cg0tpG3gyXL/

100-lb per hand overhead dumbbell press for six reps - I got it for eight when I tried it last week:

https://www.instagram.com/tv/CdzEcekASYH/

250x18 bounced and back-arched reps for bench press:

https://www.instagram.com/tv/CeldRFRAoOS/

^ Obviously loose form, but you can see I handle that like it's the empty bar.

675-lb partial/pin squat [obviously not remotely full depth, but even budging that much weight is difficult]:

https://www.instagram.com/tv/Ca0rSOUg8EH

530-lb trap bar deadlift on the low trap bar:

https://www.instagram.com/tv/Ca0uA9uANB-/

And here are a few lifts from me at 157-lb body weight:

https://www.instagram.com/tv/CdzFS71AW89/

^ Again, out-lifting Walter Sobchak despite Walter having a 106-lb weight advantage. Pathetic.

Robot humans will be much stronger than traditional humans, but their shelf life will be shorter because parts will need constant replacement.

A biological knee lasts 80 years. A replacement knee last 10 years. So if the average man lives to 73 the average robot  human will live to 9….

Interesting future.

I only pull heavy, the rest is not maxed. Too many injuries, too many injury fears. I pulled 770 conventional. I'm too insecure to post video but tommywishbone saw it  :D

This was a few years ago. Then came illnesses and injuries. I'm 45 now. Could I still pull 800? I don't know, I'm going to try. My elite pl friend peaked at over 45

Wait, what?! Why be insecure about a pull that heavy?

I have an extended Italian family dinner in 10 days, so I'm going to bring my body weight up to 210 for it. Just to be big for one last social function, because the freezing Canadian winter starts. Maybe I'll go to 213, just because that will be 0.4-lb heavier than I've ever been before [natural/fat], and I would be up 30-lb since my cycle started - then I can call it 30-lb gained on this cycle, then go off.

Once I go off, I'll decide where to settle, weight-wise, then train for strength, and hopefully get to a 540 deadlift at under 185. Just to be close to a triple body weight deadlift still, which I think puts one in the "very strong" category, whether it's a 540 DL at 180, 600 @200, 750 @250, etc.

And I would never feel insecure about that. Firstly, because a 500-lb deadlift is stronger than 99% of *lifters* [not just 99% of people, but even those who lift], and it's even more impressive to lift X weight at a lighter body weight. A 250-lb man deadlifting 500 is strong, but a 175-lb man deadlifting it is even more impressive.

So I feel no shame at all in posting lifts in certain ranges, even if I am well below the strongest members on here.

So Van - why, pray tell, would you not want to share a 770 DL video?

If you video-edited your face out so that you aren't identifiable, would that be better?

Why did Tommy Pheil to reach his goal?  ;D Jk.

Nope. I meant the Athletic Club. Do you know if all AC's are part of the same chain? Or was that AC the sole gym of an individual owner? I went to an Athletic Club before, and I'm just wondering if they are/were connected.

Matt if you took the time to read the response some people don’t care enough to share videos.

If I had to guess  this type of person is probably concerned some weirdo will figure out they are, friend them on social media and unsuspectingly wake up one day to a masturbation video in their DM’s.

Ah. So the mistake was tolerating the pain for too long?

Do you have a high pain tolerance, or was it just that you didn't possibly think you'd need a replacement, given your young age?

Incredible lifts.

I sometimes wonder if I'm holding back to much. Even gaining the size I have on this cycle despite using so little + doubling my puny calories...it makes me wonder what progress I'd make if I stopped being such a health pussy [total hypochondriac].

I just hate the idea of doing irreversible damage...and that goes for injuries too. Even seeing how white I am - it's because I worry that I'll get skin cancer if I go out in the sun too much. So I avoid it completely.

If I messed in life and had to work for a living...I would never forgive myself. If I got vaccinated, and had a major vaccine injury, I know that nothing short of a religious experience would make me get over it.

So I don't take risks for this reason.

I also want to have a look that is sustainable 24/7/365 - for years, if not decades.

But I do think with improved nutrition [eating more], I could make improvements. Let alone with more gear.

In the meantime, I'll settle on anything close to 315/405/495 for my lifts, providing my health is good, and I'm in some kind of shape [around 15% body fat is fine].

Though the way you and others on here continued to stay strong or even get stronger with age...it does motivate me to think I can still make progress...and maybe I should stop worrying about injuries, and go out and make it.
