Its not about that. It happened on live T.V., and there is something to be said about events that people can actually witness.
Is his life any greater than a random 3 year old with Cancer? No, but it still reverberates through society. His plight happened on a platform, a national stage.
I hear his charity has received millions of dollars since his accident.
Why can't we rally around St.Jude, or the World Wildlife Fund, like that?
Prayers for the young man.
St. Jude and the world wildlife fund have been around for decades and generate millions annually. People don’t need to “rally” around these charities because they already make contributions.
This players charity, if fortunate, may last but in reality this was a one off because of his devastating injury. If he wasn’t injured, unless you lived in Buffalo, you would probably never hear about this. Because there are already 30+ established charities that do toy drives. As it is this charity is already being questioned if it was initially set up for his Mother’s Daycare and now, if needed, it’s money that could be used for his long term care.
Some people make emotional decisions, some people would have donated if they knew of the charity, some people make donations for the optic’s (this is a go fund me where people are making sure they attach their name). There’s multi reasons this is taking place Shizzo.
The real question is why do we ignore other peoples needs on a daily basis? How many beggars do you ignore everyday? Why? Why can’t you/we rally around homelessness; but we can have people donate millions to this toy drive?
I think it’s because of emotional giving.
