Edit: This is interesting. I was curious to see what we have in place for situations where our military subs run into issues. Our NATO equipment can't get near those depths. The Submarine Rescue Vehicle can reach max depths of around 2000 feet. Unless they're just bobbing around somewhere, which is extremely unlikely, they are dead.

There is a submersable ready to go but the u.s is blocking it apparently and they don't know why...
The craft can go deeper than titanic and has a winch.

I feel the same. I have no feelings either way. It's like if someone loved to swim with sharks.. paid great money to swim with sharks and one day one killed him... $250K to go down to the Titanic.. and for what? Bragging rights? They knew the risks.. I'll save my empathy for the 37 people in Paris and 4 critically injured, not those on the submarine, though I do hope for a happy ending.

Was reading an article about a passenger last year. He said they made it clear it was very risky. Had to sign at least 3 waivers saying this could result in death. He said when he kissed his wife goodbye he knew it might be his last time seeing her. So I think they knew it was extremely risky but rationalized the risk which is human nature as "It won't happen to me". But it did.

I looked into it a bit and turns out you can get one of these certified luxury subs for $15m

Rated to 13,000ft depth.  Makes you wonder why these morons cheaped out for an infinitely worse experience
