I think we are talking about 2 different things.

I live in CA Disability insurance protects your income if you are injured and can’t work (think of companies like AFLAC). Private employees in CA pay into SDI (State disability insurance) which is a tax that would cover up to 60% of their salary.

You’re saying Robbie was getting  SSI (supplemental security income)? This is for people who are disabled and blind or i guess people who meet a financial floor. This is what he was getting ?
