If you ignore the gyno, Franco's pecs are amongst the best ever with regard to density and clavicular pec development. The delts and back were also impressive. Obviously his legs were quite crappy in comparison to his competitors, and he didn't deserve the win. Platz would've been my pick for winner, with Padilla second. I'd have to see the whole lineup again but Franco probably deserved 5th or 6th at best.

That said, I think the recent Canada contest judging actually supersedes the 81 O as the worst judged pro bodybuilding contest ever. At least Franco had something going for him in terms of upper body development and density and truly excellent pecs, that guy who won in Canada was a fucked up mess.

I agree about Franco. 1st and 2nd could go either way: Padilla-Platz or Platz-Padilla

I would give it to him, Platz was great that day but still had quad sweep wider than his delts, and Padilla as great as he was, practically a dwarf.
To be brutally honest, they were all manlets. Platz 5’ 7” and Callender 5’ 8” at most.

Padilla was like someone left Arnold in the dryer on "HIGH". He was complete. He was superb and he was ripped off. Padilla 1st. Platz 2nd. After that anyone up there but Franco.

The Weiders were turds sometimes and the judges should've found there own balls and voted Padilla for Mr. Olympia. Morons the lot of 'em!

Platz had crazy development never before seen in bodybuilding. Too bad he tore his bicep later on or who knows what he could have accomplished onstage. He made more money than most bodybuilders anyway doing seminars and guest appearances.
