Coffee is culturally important but it might be that coffee really is very benign. I was a heart patient and could drink coffee, nothing was said about it. I also used nicotine pouches, SNUS, in front of doctors and they didn't say anything about that either.
OT sort of but if you seek help for depresseion that would be the worst time to cold turkey nicotine, same with coffee. This the psychiatrists say themselves. So they might actually tell a patient to keep smoking.
No argument there.
Caffeine causes the release of Dopamine, Noradrenaline and Serotonin. All 3 are actively involved in the regulation of your mood and at low levels can lead to depression. If you "cold turkey" coffee, you can in theory have rebound anxiety and depression symptoms. Moreover, if you cold turkey coffee, there is such a thing as a terrible coffee withdrawal headache, it can be brutal.
Side note, for anyone that uses SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) like Prozac/Fluoxetine, Zoloft/Sertraline, Lexapro/Escitalopram, Celexa/Citalopram and Paxil/Paroxetine, these medications allow more availability of Serotonin in the brain which in turn helps to regulate both anxiety and depression. Likewise, there are other antidepressants like that of Wellbutrin/Bupropion that are NDRIs (Noradrenaline and Dopamine Reuptake Inhibitors), which allows for more Noradrenaline and Dopamine to be readily available in the brain, which also contribute to the regulation of the mood in an antidepressant fashion. That's how coffee can be one stone to kill 3 birds as it does similar to what SSRI's like Prozac + NDRI's like Wellbutrin do.
Nicotine is an interesting one. You can always substitute the Nicotine obtained from smoking with Nicotine gum, but it is in fact more of a psychological component that drives the addictive urge and therefore drives you to actually want to take part in the entire ritual of smoking (stepping outside, lighting it up, pacing yourself between puffs, speaking with others, wiping your forehead with the back of your hand as you let out a sigh of relief etc.). Personally, I sometimes chew Nicotine gum for the benefits towards my attention, concentration and focus. Nicotine causes the release of Dopamine and acetylcholine, both of which are highly beneficial for memory enhancement and overall cognition.
