What would the 10k be spent on? Not doubting you, just curious.
I mean electricity and heating bills alone are a headache for a house this size. I am set to inherit a somewhat similar slightly smaller house in a village by the sea. And it's not even close to the waterfront and has no swimming pool.
Costs include
1) Electricity bills for dehumidifiers.
2) Preventing wood from rotting - hardwood, laminates, MDF whatever.. with MDF being the worst.
3) Paint peeling off the walls.
4) Spraying every so often for mould.
5) Gardening - my parents grew some beautiful tall lemon cypress trees across the perimeter and within 5 years they had all rotted from the salty climate. Imagine how much it costs to remove a 15 foot tall tree ... multiply by that by 12.
First thing I am planning to do is install a solar roof or similar. This is at least $30k ... sigh
