Going according to their playbook.
That's exactly what Hamas wants.
As far as Hamas is concerned, the more civilians that die and the more videos and photos of death and destruction of Palestinians, the better for them.
As mentioned earlier, it's the same tactics used by other terrorist or 'freedom fighter' groups, they want to provoke a response so they can use it as propaganda to get sympathy and to politically isolate their enemy.
Maybe. I've heard the theory but nothing to support it by way of names, previous examples by Hamas or affiliated shitheads, no follow up assaults on rescue workers to really rise the fire. Idk ths timeline on the 7th but they didn't press their advantage or try to backfoot the IDF by raiding elsewhere. No boobys. My impression is that they shot everyone they saw and ran away. It smells like a short thought plan.
It's certainly possible that they had a larger plan but there's also a tendency to credit bad guys with supernatural abilities without proof.
At this stage, I think it's equally likely a bunch of murderous idiots launched a rapidly planned raid and got lucky. Or a hardcore group that expected action on the anniversary saw that a lack of coordination was going to let the day slip by, so they quickly formed plan B or had it in reserve in their sub-ranks. That would account for why Israeli intelligence got general rumblings but no alarms or dates.
I caught the film I, Tonya on tele the other night. Tonya Harding and the Nancy Kerrigan knee whack thing in the 90s. In a nutshell, peripheral morons undertook violence for chump change and marginal relevance because their lives were garbage. The world is full of idiots and factions comprised of them.
The formation of Israel suffered from crazy factionalism. Some Zionists despised Ben-Gurion. Every political party has internal power struggles. It seems likely Hamas does too. Maybe it was a faction looking to make a name for themselves.
A nice tidy narrative is comfy but I doubt it's a grand scheme hatched by evil geniuses in a perfectly regimented organization. Seems likely there's all sorts of chaos in their ranks. Maybe that could be exploited.
