I got mine done in Bangkok - before the op, the doctor warned me it would be painful - like a kick in the nuts. Seemed a fair price to pay for no more kids, so I went for it.
First warning sign was when I got into the theater, they strapped my ankles to the bed. Not my whole body, just my ankles. I asked why and they said "to stop you falling off". Which I translated as "to stop you kicking the doctor". They also put on a blindfold for my modesty (a cultural thing_)
Buckle up.
They put a local anaesthetic on my sac, so the incision didn't hurt. But there was no pain relief other than that. When he cut the first tube - it was like being kicked in the nuts - and continued to feel like that while he tied the tube off. 30 Seconds and we were done.
But the 2nd tube. All I can think is that he cut it too short, so didn't have enough there to make a good knot. A bit like when you were a kid and your shoelaces broke and you had to try and make a knot with 3cm on each side. So there he is - fumbling around - and all the time he does so, it feels like the worst ball pain I've ever had. I'd say it took him a good 5 mins to tie it off, all the time the nurses were consoling me.
Now - why don't they give you a vicodin or something - well opiates are frowned upon here and only used for end of life care.
Anyway - I would not advise a vasectomy in Bangkok. It's brutal. At least now I know how women feel in childbirth...
