Out of curiosity, why does the forum necessarily have to fold? I can understand the magazine doing so, but I'm not sure why the forum would have to.

Probably just a pain in the ass to deal with. A few months ago it was a sad place, weeks between posts, etc.... I just looked it up, Steve's 70, this might be the signal of a slow retirement. He hasn't did much publicly fitness wise the last couple of years. The little pic is a few years old now -

Yea other forums are still around …. But the “ Big 3” were Muscle Mayhem/ Muscular Development online and Get-Big……. So my point is … we are the last free bastion of rebel forces to assemble and challenge and question the IFBB and to fight for truth freedom and the American Way!                        * we must rise up and fight the tyrannical nature of Bob Chic and The IFBB until the last Man falls!

Muscular Development Magazine Reportedly Ceasing Print Publication

By Greg Patuto -
November 17, 2023
Muscular Development Magazine will reportedly cease publishing moving forward.
Muscular Development Magazine Instagram
Muscular Development Magazine will no longer offer a print edition.
After nearly 60 years, Muscular Development Magazine is reportedly shutting down publication of its print edition.

Rick Collins, who has been apart of the magazine for 22 years as a writer, shared a post on Facebook on Thursday sharing the news.

“IT IS WITH A HEAVY HEART THAT I SAY GOODBYE TO OFFICIAL MUSCULAR DEVELOPMENT MAGAZINE. AFTER 250 MONTHLY COLUMNS SPREAD OUT OVER 22 YEARS, TOUCHING ON ALL THINGS FITNESS, HORMONES, LAW, AND CULTURE, I HAVE BEEN ADVISED THAT THE MAGAZINE IS CLOSING UP SHOP AND WILL PRINT NO FURTHER ISSUES. SO SAD. WHEN I STARTED, PRINT WAS STILL A POWERHOUSE AND SOCIAL MEDIA DIDN’T YET EXIST. IT’S A DIFFERENT WORLD NOW. I WILL DEEPLY MISS WORKING WITH THE MEMBERS OF TEAM MD, AND I WISH THEM WELL IN ALL THEIR FUTURE ENDEAVORS. WHAT’S NEXT FOR ME? I’LL KEEP MY DAY JOB LAWYERING MY BUTT OFF AND MAYBE SEE WHAT ELSE LOOKS INTERESTING!”

Along with print, reports say that the company as a whole will be shutting down but this has not been confirmed to this point. Collins also shared a story written on Twitter with the caption “the end of an era.”

How could the Blechman boys not keep Twinlabs in the green? The industry has been on fire since then.

Rambo I believe they sold the supplement company that they inherited and Steve tried to make it big with the magazine and other endeavors  someone else on here may know more it’s been awhile at least 20 years

"Big" Steve left Twinlabs 2 decades ago to take charge of Muscular Development. It was a pet (schome) project for him. He signed the top pros to big money exclusive contracts and was burning through money. Pros, amateurs, writers, videographers, everyone was tryna milk him for his generosity/schome lust.

I think it was his wife that eventually stepped in and put him and MD on a tighter financial budget, as he might have started dipping into his personal wealth. This was about 10 years ago and it's been down hill for them ever since

According to Wikipedia, he helped run it for 5 years before venturing off to the magazine project. “David Blechman retired in 1996, and passed the title of CEO to his son Ross, while the other sons were installed as corporate officers. He died on July 7, 2000. In 2001 Twinlab sold ARP to Steve Blechman who then resigned from Twinlab.

After slumping sales in 2002,[2][3] the company filed a voluntary petition for Chapter 11 reorganization with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York in September 2003.”

Sounded like they crashed the company

The boys got it during the go-go mid 90's, and launched an IPO that was massively overvalued, while it was overvalued they cashed out and took on a lot of debt, because the stock was booming. Well around 1999, there was an industry wide slow down, and stock dropped like a rock and there was still that debt to pay. They also had a ton of product sitting about, and there were lawsuits from the Ephedra and Andro fallout.

Twinlab could never quite get right, and it was just easier to let it end. I think they sold it in 2002-2003. Steve left in 2001 (probably as a cost cutting measure), and they let him buy the publishing arm of Twinlab.

Now that….that’s an answer!

Yeah it was! So was Ripped Fuel. Lots of good supplements back then.

Sucks to see MD go but times changed. Look at all the social media bullshit.

So is this was the last issue...

I am writing with the sad news that Muscular Development has stopped publication. The official announcement was made in a letter to our advertisers from our publisher. The print magazine is no more and the website, while still live at this time, is not going to be posting any new content.  The last issue of MD that was published was the November 2023 issue.
