I agree.  I don’t think that “culture war” stuff plays well nationally.  People have real issues to deal with instead, like soaring food and housing costs.  Plus Desantis never had the charisma to make it big.  Short, whiny voice, awkward social interactions.  He gambled with Covid & lockdowns and made what many consider to have been the correct choice, and has been riding off his early success ever since.  Very little substance to him.

Will be interesting to see where he ends up after his term-limited time as governor comes to an end.

There's nothing fake or racist about teaching people about The Civil War or that there were slavery in this country once upon a time.   Trying to cover it up to avoid white people from feeling guilty is what I call whining.   They've taught about slavery in schools since the founding of this great nation.   Even during the apex of the Civil Rights movement, not even the most racist school board members in the South that were comprised of actual KKK members did they ever change what was taught....in fact they were proud of the shit.
