The establishment absolutely controls state security and they're just itching to use it. The police and military are more or less purged. They control money, can freeze your accounts, and sieze your assets.
They want so badly to be able to call you a terrorist and get people fired who speak up until no one dares speak up. Precipitating direct conflict is the only way they win. Without it they look like anti-democratic wanna-be tyrants meddling in an election.
