For all his faults, Palumbo really did well with the post-bodybuilding lifestyle.  I talked with someone who trained at the same gym and he said Palumbo would come in and do hours of cardio and stretching, just health optimizing stuff.  Zero weights or bodybuilding exercises.

Palumbo has health issues. Wasn't he in the hospital not to long ago? I wish him well and that applies to Arvilla. I would never wish anyone ill health though I will point out the obvious if their life choices contributed to it.

You really are a nasty old wetback. Why would you post obsessively on a forum dedicated to bodybuilding, which for the last  75 years has involved steroid use?

The problem with a lot of old school gym warriors is that you get accustomed to being called "big".

One of the hardest parts is accepting the return to normal lean body mass levels.

You get over it in a year or two. People give you shit about it constantly for a while.

I still sometimes run into someone i haven't seen in 10 years and they ask if i still workout or "what happen".

The key is to find another hobby to keep up your drive and to have the mental clarity to realize that modern BBing is very unhealthy.

I haven't been over 220 pounds in 4 years, but i'm extremely athletic and look great, just not big and bulky like i was 10 years ago. Currently ~200 pounds and ~10% BF. I haven't been inside a gym in almost 18 months and i still look "muscular".

We hiked 10 miles with over 6k feet of elevation change in 30-degree weather this morning and i didn't even feel like i was exercising. Came back to the house and started working on a truck project while my GF napped for 3 hours.

I'd never in a million years even try to bulk up like i used to, at this stage of my life it's completely irrational to even consider it. In my 20's and 30's i walked around at 260+ year round. The thought of that today is silly.

Granted I don’t know any in real life but of those I see online like most either desperately try to hang on (eg: Ronnie Coleman or Jay cutler) or they just stop giving a shit entirely (Bob Chick)

Chick has been trying to stay "big" for years but he is just fat.

Anyway, I hope Mike is better, the original thread was a bloody mess.

This subject reminds me of when I was 15 and I started working a warehouse job at a medical supply company, I'd pick and pack orders, my cousin was a manager there he got me the job and would drive me to work everyday, this was right around the time I started getting into lifting, I knew nothing about steroids, anyway the operations manager was this guy Mike, he was a thicker guy, balding hair, really nice guy..as I worked there he got to know me, he got to know I was into lifting/training, one day I'm working and he comes over and shows me this picture, it was him, he was super jacked, I could recognize it was his face, but he had a full head of hair and like I said he was just huge, the first thing I said to him was "what happened??" I'll never forget the look on his face, it was like the look of sadness and just defeat, he just said he got married and working more and life kind of took him out of the gym. Being a kid I didn't realize by saying "what happened" was being a little rude I guess, but the change was absolutely staggering, the guy was literally a shell of his former self. Anyway, I hope Arvilla is ok, and wish him a speedy recovery.

The key is to still try to maintain some type of athletic performance.

Once you let yourself go completely it's a real drag.

Almost everyone i trained/competed with back in the day has completely left the training world, most looking like they never touched a weight in their lives.

One of my good buddies from back in the day does Ironman stuff now and competes all over the world.

At least i still look great, just "deflated".

The best part is i really could care less, i just enjoy being active.

Exactly,  you gotta have a strategy at some point to transition into getting lean, athletic, functional. Still lift to maintain muscularity, but not pound super heavy poundages, swim, bike, hike, run, lift...get super lean. Stay on hrt test, maybe 2iu growth and a small bit of T3. Guys like Chick that stay big and sloppy look like shit, look at guys like Mario Lopez, Brad Pitt, Walberg, etc those guys are lean and fit, that's the look for I'd say 55 plus.
