It's a damn shame that fans like me treat pro bodybuilders much better than the IFBB and the judges who are at the contests. This federation should know that if popular bodybuilders decided to stage a boycott and stop entering shows like the Ironman, the Arnold, or even the Olympia, there would be a lot of empty seats in the audience.

FLEX and Musclemag are both Canadian.   ;D

the point was that being a Canadian corporation, the IFBB would pay Canadian taxes.

and while Musclemag is a Canadian corp, Flex was part of Joe Weider's empire out of Woodland Hills in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles in sunny southern California, but is now part of AMI in Florida.

I know I will get this a little mixed up but close.  The IFBB has a tax-exempt status not a non-profit status.  At some point the IFBB was reuqired to submit their charter for approval for tax-exempt status in the U.S. (and maybe Canada too) which the Federation is to stick profits into promoting amateur events in BB around the world.  Thus the many different federations around the world.  I think they have something like 177 now.  This permits them to not have to pay taxes.  I am not talking about the magas or anything else beside the IFBB on the BB side.  Somethinglike this.

No actually I know and have a few friends that are IFBB officials that tell me some of these things when I talk to them.  I just remeber half the crap I am told, so I get things a little mixed up.  But, the overall content is very close.

The bottom line is, the IFBB is very shrewd. By keeping the prize money so disproportionate, they know that the big names have nothing to gain by attending Chic's meetings. If there is no risk the big names will strike or boycott a contest, the IFBB has nothing to fear.  Also, since bodybuilding has such a niche market, bodybuilders have no choice but to stick with the IFBB. So long as the same top 5-6 guys make a living from the IFBB, they will never leave for the PDI (or anyone else) and the IFBB will have no real competition. The only way to break this cycle would be for some of the top guys to boycott for the good of their fellow athletes, which is not likely to happen in such an individualistic sport. Even if the second tier guys all united, they would be replaced with decent third tier facsimiles in no time.

Because the wieders have a monopoly, they control like 85-90% or all Bodybuilding in some way or form.....
So they can treat BB like shit, and have and will so ...

How many more Bodybuilders will die is the ultimate question I pose

Bob, you're acting like thee will be zero cost in making changes in travel plans and other arrangements, just 3 weeks out from the flight.  Suddenly, they have to be ready for a show a week earlier than planned.

plus, the IFBB athletes collectively just lost the income the toronto pro would have generated.   As their rep, you should be pissed right now!

Yeah he was pissed when i backed out of the Olympia 4 weeks before   BOB :)

Lee:

Are you saying that Bob is acting more like the PROMOTER'S REP than the athlete's rep?

I think the ultimate question is whether the IFBB will survive the Weiders?

Bob Hoffman controlled bodybuilding with an iron fist until his mental functions deteriorated and he went into a nursing home (which was many years before articles under his byline stopped appearing in Strength and Health).   The rise of the IFBB/NPC over the AAU strongly correlates with the deterioration of Hoffman's health.

Today, Joe Weider is no longer directly involved with bodybuilding.   A new league is forming.  What will happen to the IFBB when Ben steps down?
