I am 90% certain someone on ironage.us recall platz' best was 38 with 405.
Or, Platz wrote that somewhere.
I am really 90-95% certain: 37 or 38 reps with 405.
NOT 50, and NOT two sets.
I don't really care that he's exaggerated his lifts a bit. No doubt his squatting was very impressive nonetheless. A shame we don't have footage of him training when he was at his peak.
I liked the stories of him ritualising his lifting, you know small things like having certain items on him when lifting and so on. Maybe they were just stories, but I'd like to believe them

I don't know if he was a bit dumb as beakdoctor suspects, I don't think he said much too objectionable stuff. A lot of "deep" thinkers aren't really that deep or smart. Kai Greene is the prime example. Never says much tangible but meanders endlessly
It is interesting how he was always given a pass wrt his training style. I get why but it was just so outrageous. Someone else emulating his lifting would be thrown out of most gyms, maybe beaten. I do like the desperation aspect of the mentality, like you are really trying to overcome yourself mentally
