In a sense you never really lose muscle once gained. Well there's exceptions like when you get to a certain age, but muscle memory is very real, certain changes are permanent, even some PED gains have been shown to be permanent. I got sick and lost 70lbs and regained it all within about 3 months, twice! The doc told me when they removed me from the ventilator that "you just lost 70lbs of muscle," but of course it wasn't all actual muscle tissue, though a good portion was.
