Biggest issue I see here is how did this happen, how does someone get 5 shots off that close to a president, the answer,it was allowed to happen,? Im not saying this was a Biden hit and im not ruling out complete complacency of the security services, but what happened today should never happen in 2024. I did note the amount of useless women in the SS protection today, some overweight is this the type of protection diversity targets will deliver.

But that was a monumental failure of government lucky the shooter was some left wing idiot who couldn't shoot.

No. Not entirely.  All are reviewed on a case by case basis. All deadly force (in fact ANY force used by ANY law enforcement has to AT MINIMUM meet the Graham standard) each use of force has to be objectively reasonable under the totality of the circumstances. Even executive protection must meet this standard.  I would say probably 99/100 just seeing the rifle would be enough to use deadly force.

But 'totality of the circumstances' means context matters.  A they/them with a high powered rifle w/scope, heading up a fire escape to a rooftop would probably meet the Graham standard.

An antique gun collectormoving a muzzle loader from his store to the trunk of his car would require some explaining- for example.
