Harris campaign's Google ads rewrite news headlines



The Harris campaign has been editing news headlines and descriptions within Google search ads that make it appear as if the Guardian, Reuters, CBS News and other major publishers are on her side, Axios has found.

Why it matters: It's a common practice in the commercial advertising world that doesn't violate Google's policies, but the ads mimic real news results from Search closely enough that they have news outlets caught off guard.

According to Google's ad transparency center, the Trump campaign isn't running these types of ads, but this technique has been used by campaigns before.
The ads say that they are sponsored, but it's not immediately clear that the text that accompanies real news links is written by the campaigns and not by the media publication itself.

If and when this ends up in court it will be after the elections so it will be pointless.


Harris campaign caught editing WDAY Radio and other news outlets headlines

Hallstrom said the company has reached out to the Harris campaign Wednesday afternoon, demanding they terminate the ad immediately. He said he has not heard back from the campaign.


“We didn’t write that headline. We didn’t write anything close to it. We didn’t write a news story about that. They lied to every single person that saw that ad. It’s misleading, it’s dishonest and it really hurts our news brand.”

“And we are considering all our options here, including legal action. What’s been done here is wrong. This isn’t a grey area matter.”

It is “hard to exaggerate how bad” Vice President Kamala Harris’s proposal to implement government-enforced price control on groceries is, according to a Washington Post essay slamming the plan as both vague and harmful, and cautioning those labeled “communist” by their opponents should think twice before pushing such radical economic policies.

In a piece published Thursday, titled “When your opponent calls you ‘communist,’ maybe don’t propose price controls?” Washington Post columnist Catherine Rampell argues that it’s difficult to overstate just “how bad” Harris’s plan is.

“It’s not hard to figure out where this proposal came from,” the essay states. “Voters want to blame someone for high grocery bills, and the presidential candidates have apparently decided the choices are either the Biden administration or corporate greed.”

“Harris has chosen the latter,” Rampell adds.

I never had the opportunity or need to use Obamacare. Although it probably has affected my current healthcare benefits.

I have had Regence MedAdvantage (Blue Cross) for the past fourteen years. Prior to this, my medical insurance premiums were paid for by my employer. I have personally witnessed no negative changes in my healthcare benefits, but there have been improvements in both medical, mental health, prescriptions, vision, dental and especially audio coverage. Hearing aids are a fairly recently added benefit covered by Regence MedAdvantage. This benefit saved me over $5K last time I needed new hearing aids.

And then what we're doing in terms of the tax credits, we know that there's a great return on investment and when we increase home ownership in America…

What that does to fund schools, again, return on investment…

I think it's a mistake for any person who talks about public policy to not critically evaluate how you measure the return on investment…
