" Good God!!
In an earlier post, I mentioned that I had always believed that Dorian Yates became Mr. Olympia because he was proportioned and that for the most part, his competitors only saw his mass and tried to compete with him on size.
This photo comparison truly confirms for me that belief. I truly believe that in each and every comparison, Yates defeats Coleman. I honestly do.
His proportions totally blow away Coleman's. I think that it can be argued that perhaps Dorian Yates was the last of the 'Ironage' bodybuilders, bodybuilders that strived for proportionate development. Certainly he was the last Mr. Olympia to display proportioned development.
Thankyou very, very much Quadzilla for posting those photos!

"Regardless, to my eyes Dorain has easily the superior physique in those comparsions. Fo me, the only thing Ronnie has over Dorian is biceps and that's about it."
"Yates in EVERY comparison pose bar the very last one, for my money.
I must confess, I'm a little surprised at this myself... Yates's physique, whilst impressive, has never really been my cup of tea. But it really shows what a mess Coleman has become when Yates starts to look positively aesthetic when measured against him.."
"The arguement over at getbig is Ronnie has him on delts (size), quads (size), biceps (size).
The people that say this believe just because these parts are bigger that Ronnie has Dorian beat.
Ronnie just looks like he's been chucked together."
"These comparison pics make you realise how important balance is, and how important calves are!!
Ronnies bigger quads I see as a disadvantage, yet Dorians bigger calves do not seem a disadvantage?!
IMHO "
"The '93 Dorian is one of my all time favourite physiques, I think it's a stretch to call him aesthetic, but I think those pictures do illustrate that at this point in his career he was huge and proportionate, whilst he was a little wide in the waist he wasn't distended at this point and it fitted with the rest of his physique.I think he does Ronnie in nearly every pose and bodypart(and this from a self confessed Coleman fan)"
"Ronnie has bad gyno and looks like he just swalllowed a bowling ball in those pics. Ronnie carries more weight but his physique is sloppy and his bodyparts (other than the ham-glute tie in, which is not a look I like but is noteworthy anyway) have no continuity. His back is enormous, but is watery, lacks good definition, and resembles a ham more than back musculature.
Yates has proportion at least by comparison, and truly outstanding calf development and great back thickness/definition combo. His abs are tight( at least relative to coleman) and he has no gyno. He is cut and dry unlike ronnie. I never thought I'd say it, but I think Yates is the lesser of two evils here."
And here we have an intelligent response to Pumpster's bullshit he tried passing over at Ironage based on the shitty little 96 screencap LOL"to pumpster ronnie looks better because of the picture put yates next to him on the same stage .The olympia 96 pic is a perfect example what is going on here is similar to Parrellax error.I.e the closer person and the angle make one person appear bigger in reality that is not the case.Yates was good in fact I barely seen a riiped bodybuilder since yates reign"
"As Street said above, photo comparisons from different shows mean nothing, you HAVE to see them onstage side by side in the same show to judge them.
I`ve seen them together onstage, and Dorian was [in a] different class." "Coleman was freakier.
Yates was more balanced.
Both were great champions.
Personally, I'd take the balance. Bodybuilding for me is building the entire body in proportion so no bodypart dominates another. I believe Yates did a better job (or has better genetics for balance). Coupled with the ability to present a grainier, harder physique, it makes him the winner in my eyes."
"To me the Dorian of 1993 was the best physique ever seen - and he was better, bigger and heavier in the iconic Kevin Horton photos. Virtually faultless, and I just wish he would have entered the Olympia in that shape because he still would have won easily.
I can see Coleman taking the back shots but Overall its Dorian for me."
