You still can't explain the fact why Dorian was as dominant as he was except "politics"

its because the judges favored size over quality.

not sure if I would call that 'politics' or not, its more like flawed judging.

look no farther than 1994 for one of the best examples of size and horrible looking mass over quality ever in the sport:
