you seem to forget that all visual evidence from the contest shows that the "other" experts are correct.

they were there.

what they saw and stated is verified.

McGough's opinion isn't. the visuals do NOT show that Ronnie was noticably softer in 99 than in 98.

if any thing, he was sharper in many areas.

key difference you are overlooking.

an opinion is worthless no matter who says it if it is not supported and verified.

eg. do you agree that the 269 pound pre contest dorian was 'harder than Ronnie ever was"?

LOL I sure hope not.

McGough said that too:

see for yourself LOL

 ::)

the point is that not everything that Peter says is always true.

some of it is verified - this stuff is true  - it is supported and has corroborating evidence.

some is not - eg. his silly comment about the not even in contest shape dorian LOL

But McGough was also there, as well as Jim Rockell, I.F.B.B head judge and they noted Ronnie's inferior conditioning. As for the pics, I stand by McGough's opinion. Look at Ronnie's famous back shot from 1998 then compare it to those of Ronnie from 1999 and you'll see that Ronnie is clearly sharper in 1998. I think the mistake here is that you're confusing vascularity with conditioning. Ronnie was fuller, retaining more water in 1999 than 1998, and that made his veins more engorged. This does not mean that his muscles were more defined or harder.

Dorian displayed more graininess and hardness therefore was a better bodybuilder than Ron Coleman.

Hope this helps.

Epic one-dimesional analysis. Apparently it doesn't matter if Coleman blows Yates away on virtually every criteria.

for what it's worth, ronnie NEVER had dorian's rock-solid conditioning.

however, in my eye, that means fuck-all when it comes to deciding who has the better build. a 145 pound kid could be shredded to the bone and covered in striations but still be a twig. at the end of the day ronnie's "marshmallow" body had better size, shape, and proportions at its best than dorian's at its best.

look at classic photos of sergio and arnold while they were on stage. if they showed up looking like that today (ignoring the size thing) they'd get comments like "smooth as a baby's ass" and "absolutely no definition from the back". the obsession with conditioning is retarded, it makes people forget who actually built the better body which, i do believe, is the whole point of bodybuilding.

I haven't read the entire thread -  ::) - so I apologize if this has been covered before...

But has anyone observed the similarities between this thread and the case of Jarndyce and Jarndyce?

Very good point...
I think Dorian had a harder look to him but prime Ronnie had more seperation, striations
and deeper cuts in most bodyparts. The one place Doz had him was in back definition
..but the reverse was true from the waist down from the back. When I saw the 269 pics
back in 93 I wasn't blown away like most people. I thought he looked like a huge powerlifter
who had good shape, hardness and proportion but not a pure bodybuilders physique. When I 1st saw dillet
in the 93 Ironman I was more impressed except for the back of course. He looked huge but had that
bodybuilders build that reminded me much of Arnold.

Amazing.

If the merit of bodybuilders were judged exclusively by how they look from the front during the relaxed round, Ronnie would be the greatest ever. However, there are other criteria to consider.

Amazing.

There is nothing amazing about elongated pecs, alien abs, smooth legs and poor calf development. Why is it Coleman nuthuggers refuse to look at the flaws? They stick out like a sore thumb. BTW both Yates and Haney had less flaws than Coleman so that makes them superior bodybuilders IMO.

I have to agree that Coleman looks borderline off-season in this shot, although you have to admit that his taper is fantastic for a 300 lbs bodybuilder.

photographic comparisons are bull shit!  - Being a graphic designer, It's very obvious a lot of the Ronnie shots you posted are hectically altered using a tool in Photoshop called unsharp mask. This Dorian photo took me 2 sec.    ::)

dick waving with photo's is totally irrelvant .

Man are you oblivious. Haney with serious balance issues and limbs that never came close to the great torso had less flaws, right. ::)

lots of experts were there too - like McGough, people from Musclemag, MD etc.

and they all say: Ronnie 99> dorian and Ronnie 98.
